Sports can be a vehicle for change. It creates a community where people can collectively have a voice to shout for genuine change for issues that affect their lives.
In Football, you can usually observed this in established leagues around the world (EPL, La Liga or Bundesliga) where you can hear not less than 60k people chanting in unison about social issues they wanted to be heard of. And their Government usually listens, because it is the voice of their people.
Here in the Philippines, we are ripe of various societal issues which needs change. One voice is not enough, few can just be shrugged off. But a collective one properly directed might have a chance to be heard and acted upon.
As a lowley football club trying to survive for the sake of our mission of developing grassroots football in the community we are representing, it is also our vision to be in a stable football league where our people can gather not just to watch a game of football but also as a venue for them to air out issues and concerns genuinely affecting the community.
Sadly, there is no existing league or structure for us to join in. The Federation’s focus is somewhere else. Local set up is only for sporadic football festivals designed so that organizers can have instant gain. What we aim is for a regular and season based leauge where clubs can regularly compete and players development is supported through consistent playing time. Of course, there are logistical nightmare involved but this is not impossible at all. What is needed is a collective efforts among Clubs, stakeholders, and the Local Government Units to work these out.
