Grateful for the opportunity to serve as a mentor during the DOST Misamis Occidental 3-Month Incubation Program.

During the World Café Mentoring Session, I had the chance to sit down with aspiring founders and share one principle that has helped me approach complex problems:

Start with the big picture, then reverse-engineer your way toward it.

A big vision can sometimes feel overwhelming when viewed as one huge goal. But when we work backwards from the outcome we want and break the journey into smaller, bite-sized steps, the path becomes much clearer—and more importantly, easier to execute.

It was inspiring to hear the ideas, challenges, and ambitions of the participating teams. Every founder starts somewhere, and sometimes what they need is not another big idea, but a clearer way to turn the big idea into the next achievable step.

Thank you to DOST Misamis Occidental, DOST Northern Mindanao, and iDEYA for creating a space where aspiring entrepreneurs can learn, exchange ideas, and build together.

I'm looking forward to seeing how these teams turn their ideas into ventures that create real value in our communities.

Building Gametym also means helping build other founders.

One of the opportunities I'm grateful for this year was serving as a mentor during fab2market, a 12-week ideathon organized through the collaboration of MSU-IIT Shared Service Facilities, DTI Lanao del Norte, and the innovation ecosystem at MSU-IIT. The program helps participants transform ideas into real business solutions through ideation, validation, and prototyping.

Throughout the mentoring sessions, I had the chance to listen to different teams, ask questions, challenge assumptions, and share lessons from my own startup journey—from working in the Philippine startup ecosystem to now building Gametym here in Iligan City.

One thing I always enjoy about mentoring is that it becomes a two-way learning experience. While I share my experiences, I also gain fresh perspectives from students and aspiring founders who are passionate about solving real problems.

As we continue building Gametym, I believe staying connected with communities like this is important. Great companies are not built in isolation—they grow through collaboration, mentorship, and a willingness to keep learning.

Thank you to the organizers, mentors, and participants for allowing me to be part of the journey.

𝗕𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗡𝗲𝘅𝘁 — 𝗙𝗼𝗿 𝗜𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗮𝗻, 𝗙𝗼𝗿 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗿𝗼𝗼𝘁𝘀 𝗦𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘀. 🏀💻

Last June 26, I had the opportunity to attend Build the Next: Startup Iligan Summit '26.

Although I've been fortunate to spend many years in the Philippine startup ecosystem, this was my first time attending a startup event here in Iligan City—and it was refreshing to see founders, innovators, government, academe, investors, and ecosystem builders coming together with a shared vision of growing innovation in our city.

One reminder stayed with me throughout the event:

Great startups don't begin with technology. They begin with a real problem worth solving.

For me, that problem is in grassroots sports.

Too many grassroots athletes dedicate years to their sport, yet their stories are remembered only through memories.

Too many athletes have stories, achievements, and years of dedication that slowly fade because they were never documented or preserved.

That's why I started Gametym.

Our vision goes beyond statistics and software. We're building a platform that helps leagues become more organized, celebrates athletes, and preserves their sporting journeys so that years from now, they can look back and say, "That was my story."

I'm grateful to the Iligan Startup Council, the organizers, speakers, partners, and everyone who continues to strengthen Iligan's startup ecosystem. Thank you for creating spaces where founders can learn, connect, and be reminded why we build.

This is only the beginning—for Gametym, for grassroots sports, and for innovation in Iligan City.

Let's build something that lasts.

Every startup begins with an idea. Every founder begins by learning.

Before products are launched, partnerships are formed, or milestones are celebrated, there are conversations, communities, and people who help shape the journey.

Last March 27, 2026, Gametym participated in the iDEYA Mindanao Startup Challenge (iMSC) Mixer at MSU-IIT, where startup founders, innovators, mentors, and aspiring entrepreneurs gathered to connect, exchange ideas, and learn from one another. The iMSC is one of the flagship programs of the iDEYA Center of Innovation and Technopreneurship, which helps founders in Mindanao transform ideas into viable startups through mentorship, incubation, and community-building. �

For us, joining events like this is more than networking.

It's about continuously learning from the startup ecosystem, building meaningful relationships, and bringing those lessons back into Gametym as we work toward our mission of strengthening grassroots sports through technology.

We're grateful to be part of a growing community of builders here in Iligan City, and we're excited for what's ahead—not only for Gametym, but for the local startup ecosystem as a whole.
