GUICAUSA is an acronym for Guihulngan-Canada-United States of America coined during the 1998 Guihulnganons reunion in San Francisco, California. The nomenclature of the organization, which obviously connotes Unity, Oneness, is so appropriate. Although there were small and sporadic gatherings of Guihulnganons in different places nationwide, a need to organize arose. So in the early months of 1997 a
handful of townsfolk got together and held regular meetings. Networking and planning started. Everyone involved got busy calling, emailing and faxing. Google was only a research project then and Facebook was non-existent. We were lucky there were search engines available such as Magellan, Lycos, Infoseek, Excite, Yahoo and the World Wide Web but not everyone has an email address, so we relied heavily back on calling and faxing. In short, a plan was created, a good number of townsfolk contacted and committed to attend, a venue was secured and a grand reunion was scheduled around the long July 4th weekend in 1998. Countless meetings made the core group closer and kept the connection stronger. GUICAUSA was formulated and officially recognized at the reunion and has become the banner around which the cityfolks of Guihulngan especially those in USA and Canada coalesce.
