This bright yellow box fish may look cute, but it’s actually one of the reef’s most unique survival experts 🐠💛
Box fish belong to the family *Ostraciidae*, known for their hard, box-like body structure that acts like natural armor against predators. Their small fins allow them to hover and maneuver with incredible precision through coral reefs, even in strong currents.
Juvenile yellow box fish are especially eye-catching because their bright colors can serve as a warning signal to predators. Some species of box fish can also release toxins when stressed, making them one of the ocean’s most fascinating defensive specialists.
Seeing species like this in the reefs of Siargao is a reminder of how diverse and scientifically remarkable marine ecosystems truly are 🌊✨
The ocean is still full of species waiting to be understood and every dive is a chance to learn something new about life beneath the surface.
