So, how much protein powder is TOO much?

🤓 Getting more than 80 grams from protein powder is excessive for *most* people, as it displaces whole food sources that provide vitamins, minerals and other nutrients we need.⁣⁠

Are all protein sources equal? 🥩 I'd argue no...⁠

The word "protein" comes from the Greek word "proteios", meaning "primary" or "holding the first place 🥇⁠
⠀⁠
And rightfully so! Protein is the most important macronutrient responsible for building and repairing tissues 🛠️ making hormones and enzymes and more.⁠
⠀⁠
Our bodies are constantly breaking down and building up our tissues - a process known as "protein turnover" 🔁⁠

Because we cannot store (or create) protein, as we can fat and carbs, we need to make sure we are getting an adequate amount everyday!⁠
⠀⁠
So back to the question - are all protein sources equal? 🤔 The best source of protein is from unprocessed, animal sources.⁠
⠀⁠
These foods contain ALL the essential amino acids that we need, in perfectly balanced amounts! ⚖️ Not to mention additional nutrients that are best absorbed from whole foods.⁠
⠀⁠
The protein in most protein bars? 🍫⁠

Often you are getting a blend of animal and plant sources (ex. whey and soy), which might be ok itself but then there are 20+ added ingredients to hold it together and make it palatable...⁠
⠀⁠
There is a time and a place for protein bars, and some are better than others no doubt! 👍 But when it comes down to it, real food always wins!⁠
