Joemel P. Narzabal, coached by National Arbiter Ronald T. Solon and a student at Zamboanga del Norte National High School, displayed remarkable skill and perseverance in the 16&under Category during the Cagayan de Oro Leg at Limketkai Mall on January 27, 2024. Joemel finished in a tie for first place after earning six victories in the seven-round Swiss system, but he eventually took third place in a tie-break.

Joemel's path to the Grand Finals was paved with the fierce spirit of the competition. This crucial competition, which is set for May 2024 in Cotabato City, will include qualifiers from the Davao Leg, Zamboanga Leg, and BARM Leg. There is a lot on the line because the Grand Finals winner will get to represent our nation in the prestigious Singapore Chess Festival 2024.
