As a grassroots coach, I sometimes feel disappointed when I see how sports programs are being prioritized.

There are government-funded activities for many different purposes, while sports—especially grassroots sports—are sometimes given only a one-day event or a short tournament. There are also occasions when support is focused on athletes or teams who have already reached a certain level of recognition.

But what about the young athletes who are still starting?

What about the kids who have talent, potential, discipline, and dreams, but don't have the financial resources to develop them?

Many of our future athletes are coming from families who cannot afford expensive training, equipment, transportation, tournaments, and other costs. These are the children who may need government support the most.

As a grassroots coach, I see potential every day. Talent is everywhere, but opportunity is not.

The reality is that sports in the Philippines often survive because of the passionate parents who sacrifice their time, money, and energy just to give their children a chance. Parents pay for training, uniforms, transportation, food, tournament fees, and sometimes even travel just so their kids can continue playing.

We are grateful for these parents. But grassroots sports should not depend almost entirely on their sacrifices.

Development takes time. It requires regular training, proper facilities, equipment, qualified coaches, competitions, and continuous support—not just a one-day event.

Let's not wait until a young athlete becomes a champion before we decide to support them.

Support them while they are still learning.
Support them while they are still dreaming.
Support them while they are still developing.

Because sometimes, the child with the greatest potential is not the one who has the most resources.

The child with potential may simply be the one who needs someone to give him or her a chance.

🏀⚽🏐🥋🏃‍♂️🏊‍♀️

Invest in grassroots sports.
Invest in our children.
Invest in the future of Philippine sports.
