Provincial try-outs for Batang Pinoy set Jan. 17-20
Lingayen, Pangasinan – The provincial government has set try-outs to fill the slots of Team Pangasinan for the Batang Pinoy, a major sports spectacle in the country among athletes aged 15 years old and below.
To jumpstart the preparations, the Provincial Sports Development and Management Council (PSDMC) led by its Executive Director Modesto Operania, on January 10 convened trainers and coaches in a coordinating meeting.
Operania said the coordinating meeting meant to finalize the guidelines for the selection with the concurrence of the trainers and coaches of the young athletes who are mainly from Department of Education (DepEd) schools divisions of Pangasinan I, Pangasinan II, Alaminos City, San Carlos City, and Urdaneta City.
Up for elimination are slots for 16 sporting events, which include archery, arnis, athletics, badminton, basketball, boxing, chess, dancesports, karatedo, lawn tennis, sepak takraw, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, indoor volleyball, and beach volleyball.
The Batang Pinoy selection sponsored by the provincial government is fully-supported by DepEd, and National Sports Associations.
Formed under the Espino administration, Team Pangasinan is a perennial top contender in the Batang Pinoy Luzon Leg, and National Finals, respectively.
Harvesting 71 medals (24 gold, 23 silver, and 24 bronze medals), Team Pangasinan ranked 5th in the 2018 Batang Pinoy national finals.
