We are pleased to announce the Philippine delegation set to compete at the prestigious 19th World Kendo Championships (WKC) happening in Milan, Italy this 4-7 July 2024.

The WKC stands as the world’s top competition in Kendo which takes place every three years. This year, more than 50 nations will converge. We're proud to share that the Philippines will be making its debut appearance to the said tournament.

What is Kendo?

Kendo is the Japanese art of fencing. It is unique in that unlike many other physical arts, it has no discrimination in its practise. People of any s*x, age, size, race and religion are able to practise together.

The physical benefits of training in kendo include improved strength, endurance and overall fitness. The mental benefits one experiences are stress relief, improved self-discipline, concentration, mental clarity and calmness. The mental training involved in kendo teaches the student how to maintain mental calmness and balance when faced with stressful situations. While the physical and technical exercises are important aspects of kendo practice, a high value is also placed upon performing with full spirit, even if the odds are against you.

Some of the benefits of kendo

Attitude

The upright physical posture of kendo is mirrored by the development of a straightforward inner attitude that helps us evade necessary movements and obstructing thoughts during practice and any art-related activity.

Respect

Practising sincerely in an atmosphere of mutual benevolence furthers not only respect for the concerns of others, but also self.

Focus

Full concentration on the actions taking place during practice and artistic activity is an essential requirement.

Intuition

The ability to discern an opponent’s intentions is applicable to the judgement of the essence of works of art and music.

The UKFP is now open for membership renewal and new applications for the year 2023!

For current UKFP Members (as of 2022), the last day of your membership is on Jan 21, 2023 and you must complete all of your membership requirements to renew your membership for 2023 on or before this date.

UKFP members enjoy the following privileges:
1. First priority to join or have access to UKFP events & activities.
2. Lower participation rates to UKFP events & activities compared to non-members.
3. First priority to be selected as members of the Philippine Kendo Team Training Pool, and the Philippine Kendo Team (to compete in applicable international events).
4. First access to news and announcements regarding the UKFP.

These are the membership fees for this year:
1. Regular Members - PhP750.00
2. Seniors and PWDs - PhP600.00
3. Minors (below 18 years of age) - PhP500.00

The membership requirements for 2023 are the following:
1. Completion of the submission process of the membership form (includes responding to the email that will be sent after the submission of the form). The form may be accessed here: https://forms.gle/Z27YQE4dTbYU3GJF8
2. For PWDs, submission of a copy of an unexpired PWD ID (front and back) to [email protected], if applicable.
3. Payment of the membership fee (inquire with your club's Memcom representative on how to make the payment). This can be paid via installment up to three (3) months after the initial payment (minimum of P200).
4. Certification of Good Standing from your home club (this endorsement will be submitted directly to the UKFP by your home club).

While applications for membership may be accepted all throughout the year, the submissions at the beginning of the year will have a January 21 cut-off. Please inquire with your club's Memcom representative for more details.

Members of the following clubs are eligible to apply for or renew their UKFP Memberships: Cebu Kendo Club, Davao Kendo Club, Davao Kenyukai, Dumaguete Kendo Club, IGA Kendo Club, Iloilo Kendo Club, Manila Kendo Club, OISCA Negros Kendo Club, & RSR Kendo Club
