Relax your kick in open water.

Your legs burn energy fast—and in long swims, that energy is better saved for when you really need it.

Think of your kick as support, not your main engine. Stay relaxed, stay efficient, and let your upper body do the work.

Small adjustments like this can make a big difference in how you feel and finish in open water. 🌊

Have you tried easing your kick during long swims?

I Trust My Depth

Some bridges aren’t meant to be crossed twice.
And sometimes, growth looks like letting it fall,
even when you’re still standing on it.

I used to fear the distance,
the silence after,
the unknown that follows loss.

But I’ve come to understand,
I am not afraid of the water anymore.
I know how to carry myself through it.

So if something must end, let it.
I trust what I’ve learned.
I trust how I’ll rise.

Pool training builds fitness.
Open water builds swimmers.

Out here, you learn to deal with waves, currents, and everything you can’t control.

That’s where mental toughness is built.
That’s where you learn to adapt.
That’s where race readiness really happens.

And somehow… it’s also where community grows stronger.

If you want to be ready on race day, you have to train in the environment you’ll compete in. 🌊

I used to lead group workouts back when I was a full-time fitness coach in a commercial gym.

At the recent Coastman Lobo, Batangas race, I found myself doing it again. Leading the dynamic warm-up for our Swim Central race participants, with a few kids even jumping in.

And in that moment, I realized how much I missed this… guiding a group, watching movement come alive, and seeing their bodies “wake up” through the patterns I teach.

There’s something grounding about it—being back in that space, not just as a coach, but as someone who still finds joy in movement itself.

Swimmers, quick reminder, your strength doesn’t just come from time in the water.

Your pull, your catch, your body position… all of that improves when you build strength on land too.

I’m starting my Swim Dryland Phase 1: Rebuild.

Focusing on control, proper form, and strength that actually translates to better swimming (not just random workouts).

If puro swim lang and you’re skipping strength training, you might be holding yourself back more than you think.

Train with intention.
Move with purpose.
Then bring that strength back to the water.
🌊

If you’re curious about how to start dryland training for swimming, comment below.

I'll be happy to guide you.

even if you don’t feel like it.
