The Consulate General of Japan in Davao hosts the National Day Reception to celebrate the 66th birthday of His Majesty Emperor Naruhito of Japan.

Consul General of Japan to Davao and Mrs. ONO Hirotaka welcomed guests from Davao’s Japanese community, the Consular Corps, government officials, and tourism and business stakeholders on February 19.

With the anniversary theme of "Weaving the Future Together: Peace, Prosperity, Possibilities," the gathering also celebrates the 70th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations between
Japan and the Philippines and the 123rd anniversary of the Japanese migration in Mindanao.

Honorable Consul General, distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen,

Good evening.

It is with profound honor and sincere gratitude that I extend my warmest greetings as we gather to celebrate the National Day of Japan.

I would like to express my deepest appreciation to the Honorable Consul General and the Consulate for the gracious invitation to attend this distinguished National Day Reception. It is truly a privilege and a great honor to be part of this meaningful celebration.

Today, we recognize not only the national pride and rich heritage of Japan, but also the enduring values of unity, respect, discipline, and excellence that have inspired people around the world. Japan’s remarkable contributions to culture, innovation, and international friendship continue to serve as a source of admiration and inspiration.

I am deeply grateful for the warm hospitality extended to all of us this evening. This occasion reflects the strong bonds of friendship, mutual respect, and cooperation that unite our communities and our nations.

It is my sincere hope that these ties will continue to grow stronger, fostering greater understanding, peace, and collaboration for many years to come.

It’s temping to let them quit to avoid the “struggle” but we’re not just teaching them how to punch - we are teaching them how to stay the course when life gets difficult. Resilience isn’t born, it’s forged through consistency.

When we let them choose the “easy way” today we might be making their future a lot harder.
