A Heritage Learning Experience | March 06, 2026
As part of their academic journey, the STM III students of Cebu Normal University explored the rich cultural and historical heritage of South Cebu through visits to some of the regionโs most significant destinations. The educational tour allowed the students to experience firsthand how history, tradition, and community continue to shape Cebuโs identity.

The journey began with a visit to the historic Archdiocesan Shrine of Nuestra Seรฑora del Patrocinio de Maria, one of the most well-preserved Spanish-era churches in Cebu. The students also explored the Boljoon Parish Museum and the historic El Gran Baluarte, learning about Boljoonโs role in protecting coastal communities during the Spanish colonial period.

In Argao, the students visited the historic Cabecera de Argao, including the Archdiocesan Shrine of St. Michael the Archangel and the Museo de la Parroquia de San Miguel. They also witnessed the traditional art of Hablon weaving and learned about the making of Argaoโs famous delicacy, tortaโhighlighting the townโs living traditions and craftsmanship.

The tour continued with a visit to the renowned Monastery of the Holy Eucharist, commonly known as the Simala Shrine, a well-known pilgrimage site admired for its majestic architecture and spiritual significance.

The journey concluded in Carcar City with visits to the historic Archdiocesan Shrine of St. Catherine of Alexandria and the Carcar City Museum, where students gained deeper insights into the cityโs preserved artifacts, architecture, and local history.
Through this immersive experience, the STM III students strengthened their appreciation for Cebuโs historic churches, cultural traditions, and heritage landmarksโproving that learning truly extends beyond the classroom.
