RAMONIAN TILERS GARNERED UNANTICIPATED VICTORIES
in the 2-day and 12-round open scrabble tournament of THE 1st Councilor Rey Gealon that was held at the City Wing Atrium, SM Seaside Cebu.
The HIGH SCHOOL CATEGORY was participated by scrabblers from various schools.
Current Ramonian scrabbler and dark horse Paulo John Mabano had an unprecedented victory by finishing as the 2nd runner-up in the high school category with 9 wins and +410 spread points.
This is proof that his excellence in Scrabble is ceaseless, as his most recent tournament participation was in December 2022, yet he managed to secure a medal placement in his comeback.
This placement by Mabano is his FIRST PODIUM FINISH and personal best.
Another current scrabbler, Ivy Marie Del Rio, made another remarkable feat for Ramonian Scrabble after securing the special awards of HIGHEST SINGLE GAME (HSG) by scoring 570 points and at the same time the HIGHEST SINGLE TURN (HST) with her word "EARTHING" for 163 points.
She received two medals and cash prizes for these.
Former Ramonian Scrabbler Divine Angel Padilla, who participated in the tournament for the college category with 15 rounds, also received a special award for HIGHEST SINGLE GAME (HSG) for her whopping 602 points.
Her victory is identical to Paulo's, who manifested Ramonian Tilers' excellence in scrabble that never fades.
Another tiler, a Ramonian adopted alumnus from the University of Cebu, King Jos Rydan S. Relatorres, was hailed as a CHAMPION🏆 in the college category with 13 wins and +1500+ spread points.
He was gibsonized for the last 2 rounds as it was already
guaranteed that he would receive the top prize and could not be overtaken. Indeed, King is the King of the Hill for the college category.
Overall, Ramonian tilers accumulated five (5) medal placements. Three (3) are coming from the high school category and two (2) from the college category.
All awardees received medals and cash prizes.
It is another well-played battle for the current players:
Kristian Marpe M. Tallo (former Ramonian scrabbler)
Christian Alipar,
Elsa Melecio ,
Shinji James Estoy,
Judea Nemil,
Caroline Oloden,
Karl Celetaria
And a memorable experience for the first-timers. The performance of the neophyte grade 8 scrabble players is an embodiment of how scrabble continues to blaze in the spirit of every Ramonian scrabbler. This is their first tournament outside the school arena, and their tenacity and persistence are shown in every round of the game:
Joseph Andrew Abregana,
Noel Daing,
Mishaiell Jae Larot,
Hailey Vito,
Amy Belle,
Audrey Marie Caliao,
Maria Cyria Jamison, and
Kairesha Damayo
A very big THANKS to Coaches Mam Mara Ebonalo for overseeing the players and being at their side and for reassuring them that whatever the result of the game, you'll believe in them just the same, and to Sir Richard Arriesgado for always making time to be with the players amidst distance and space and continuously showing your unwavering support. Tilers are motivated to win a game because of you.
CONGRATULATIONS to both awardees and participants!
Special thanks to Mam Novabos.
Also Thanks to everyone who made this tournament possible, Atty. Rey Gealon, Ma'am Abella, and the tournament officials.
