In a tragic incident, Cebuano basketball player Mark Kevyn Tenebroso, aged 27, died in a motorcycle accident on Friday, November 3. The accident occurred along the national highway in Barangay Macaas, Catmon, situated in the northern region of Cebu.
Tenebroso was a member of the University of the Visayas (UV) Baby Lancers that reigned supreme in the 2012 Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) Under 16 National Basketball Championship held in Baguio City.
Two of his teammates then went on to become PBA cagers in Paul Desiderio and Leonard Santillan.
Tenebroso's other notable comrades during his historic title run with the Baby Lancers were Sheldon Gahi, Theo Joshua Flores, John Carl Escalona, and Ralph Jude Dinolan among others.
"A true friend and a true teammate. Rest in peace Kevyn Tenebroso. Condolence to Tenebroso family.See you on the other side my brother!," Gahi, now based in Canada, wrote on his page.
Tenebroso suited up for the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) Panthers under coach Albert Alocillo for two consecutive seasons in the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI) in 2016 and 2017.
"Gone too soon Kevyn Tenebroso.Thanks for our journey together," said coach Alocillo.
"RIP ako buotan nga teammate," shared Jawein Ceniza, Tenebroso's teammate with USPF.
At the time of his passing, Tenebroso is among the vital cogs of the Steadfast Builders in the Mandaue's Pride Basketball Association (MPBA) Season 2:Cebuano Cup.
"The whole MPBA team would like to express our deepest condolences to the whole Tenebroso family. It's very sad to hear the news that our brother Mark Kevin passed away today. He has been a part of MPBA Season 1 who played for Headway and currently playing for Steadfast in Season 2. His passion for the game, his camaraderie, and his spirit on and off the court will be greatly missed. We stand together as a team, offering our deepest condolences to his family and friends during this incredibly difficult time. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Keep balling in heaven," the MPBA said in a statement.
