Thank you so much Mr. Yudai Ueno for giving a heartfelt message for all the participants. The tournament coincided with the 70th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations with Japan and the Philippines. May Karate and the tournament be a shining example of the continued friendship between Japan and the Philippines.

𝙄𝙒𝘼𝘽𝙐𝘾𝙃𝙄 𝙓𝙄

Iwabuchi XI was held on August 23, 2026. Chapters from all across the country from Mountain Province to Cagayan de Oro City participated in the tournament with guest players from JKA Hong Kong and Japan in Hoops Dome, Lapu-Lapu City.

The tournament was attended by the Consulate General of Japan in Cebu with a message from Consul-General Yudai Ueno encouraging the participants to perform their best, enjoy the competition, and most importantly, embrace the true spirit of karate.

And enjoy the tournament they did, the tournament was action-packed with every participant doing their best in the competition.

JKA- Sacred Heart Center, JKA-Magnum Sports Complex, and JKA-San Carlos Seminary College all participating under one banner gave their all and won medals through their efforts.

Second day of the Shotocon had colored belts and black belts from across the country to attend gasshuku (mass training) conducted by Sensei Ryosuke Shimizu and his wife, Satomi Shimizu.

In the afternoon, the 1st kyu brown belts were examined by Sensei Ryosuke Shimizu, Sensei Satomi Shimizu, Shihan Masayuki Iwabuchi, and Shihan Yasonori Iwabuchi. This is a critical moment for the brown belts as they transition into black belts. The black belt is not the end of their journey, but rather, it is the beginning of a new one. It is the start of deeper learning and personal growth wherein they take on the role of senpai to their kouhais and exemplify a refined personality learned from their many years prior to becoming a black belt.

To all the newly promoted black belts, we wish you well on your deeply transformative experience that you will have moving forward. Ossu!

𝙃𝘼𝙋𝙋𝙔 𝘽𝙄𝙍𝙏𝙃𝘿𝘼𝙔, 𝙎𝙀𝙉𝙎𝙀𝙄 𝘾𝙃𝙍𝙄𝙎𝙏𝙄𝙉𝙀!

Happy birthday to our beautiful sensei, Sensei Christine!

Sensei Christine Bejec is born this day on August 21. She started training karate at 6 years old under the tutelage of Shihan Antonio Diluvio. Out of an entire school of aspiring karatekas, only she was able to become a black belt, the very personification of the late Shihan Masanori Takahashi's saying, "It is better to have one tiger than to have a thousand sheep". She has won multiple national tournaments in both kumite and kata.

As a former guidance counselor, she promotes karate as a means for development. As such, she has devoted much of her life to teaching young children and young adults the art of karate. She is deeply dedicated to guiding the next generation, instilling in them the values of strength, discipline, faith, respect, and self-control.

The first day of Shotocon 2026 is now over!

Black belts from all across the country have gathered to learn from 2 All-Japan Karate Champions, Sensei Ryosuke Shimizu and Sensei Satomi Okuie. Their teachings will be used in the enhancement and maintenance of teaching quality of Karate in the Philippines.

Furthermore, the black belts have also taken their instructors', judges', and examiners', licensure examinations which will be graded by Sensei Ryosuke Shimizu.

All grades, ranks, and certifications of all karate practitioners affiliated with JKA Philippines are recorded in JKA Headquarters in Tokyo, Japan and are recognized internationally.

Shotocon, the conference, gasshuku, and examinations, for JKA-Philippines will begin tomorrow starting August 21, 2026, to August 22, 2026.

The Shotocon is an annual event for the Japan Karate Association wherein guest instructors from Japan will visit the Philippines to conduct a gasshuku (mass training) and licensure examinations for instructors and judges.

The Shotocon ensures the consistency and quality of training practices by the Japan Karate Association - Philippines through the gasshuku and seminar for black belts.

Furthermore, examinations for examiners, judges, and referees for their licensures will be conducted by the guest instructor, ensuring that they will meet international standards.

This year's guest instructor is Ryosuke Shimizu, 2-time champion of the JKA-All Japan Championships Kumite Men's Division. He is accompanied by his wife, Satomi Okuie, who is also a champion of the JKA-All Japan Championships Kumite Women's Division.

This event underscores JKA-NKK Philippines’ unwavering dedication to providing world-class karate education in the country, guided by and aligned with the high standards of karate education as established in Japan.
