Yesterday, I petted an elephant for the first time in my life. It was an exciting experience for me. They were so gentle and sociable. But the thought of this tamed monster tapping my shoulder with its trunk scared me. I posed for some pics then the keeper asked for a tip and I gave him 100 baht.
After that, I had a mixed bag of emotions. For one, I was ecstatic. But on the other hand, I couldn't look at it in the eye. Part of me felt guilty. I don't know how elephants are being taken care of, but they need to be in their natural habitat where they could roam freely and play. Not working an 8 to 5.
Still, I'm thankful to my 30-year-old-something self for this experience. It's something my 20-year-old self would've never imagined.
