On December 16, 2021 typhoon Odette / Rai surf plowed through the Philippines. Siargao Island was the first in its destructive path and 95% of the island was damaged. Harana and the Harana family was not spared. Though we are grateful that all of Haranaβs staff are safe, 95% of them lost everything they own- from their homes to all their belongings.
As a company we have been fully committed to the sustainable development of the island. We've always believed that what sets siargao apart as a destination is the community. The warm and hospitable locals as well as the people who have made it their choice to live on the island side by side the siargao-nons. Without this community, siargao would just be another surf destination.
Help us rebuild the lives in this community. Along with other resort owners, and members of the community, We are raising funds to build homes for victims of the typhoon. We will start with our family, our staff at harana and their families. Our immediate and short-term goal is to put roofs over their heads so that they can have some sense of normalcy after such a traumatic event.
Our medium term goal however, is to build more structurally sound homes that will withstand future storms that will come. While we work towards these goals, Harana Surf Resort will be used as a base for volunteers and relief operations as much as possible.
If you would like to join us in this journey of rebuilding a stronger and more resilient siargao please help us raise funds as well as join the island's volunteer efforts. Feel free to contact us if you have ideas or questions with regards to our efforts.
