OFFICIAL STATEMENT OF APOLOGY, ACCOUNTABILITY, AND COMMITMENT
Regarding the Incident on October 9, 2026 at Mayor Ig-ig Moreno Open Commercial Basketball League 2026z
Mighty Warriors Basketball would like to express its sincere apology to everyone who was affected by the unfortunate incident involving our coach, Gerald Strong Ylaya, during the altercation with a player from Tuburan 360 on October 9, 2026, at the Mayor Ig-ig Moreno Open Commercial Basketball League 2026.
We acknowledge that the gesture displayed by our coach, which circulated online, was inappropriate and unprofessional. Regardless of the emotions, tension, or circumstances that led to the incident, we recognize that such behavior is unacceptable and does not reflect the values of respect, discipline, humility, and sportsmanship that we strive to uphold as a team.
We deeply regret that this incident has brought disappointment not only to our supporters but also to the basketball community, the tournament organizers, and the young viewers who look up to basketball players and coaches as role models. We understand that our actions, especially when displayed publicly and circulated online, carry influence beyond the basketball court. What young people see in us can shape their understanding of how to respond to conflict, manage emotions, and treat others with respect.
To our coach, Gerald Ylaya, this incident serves as a serious reminder that being a coach is more than teaching basketball. It is about leading by example, exercising self-control, and demonstrating respect even in the most challenging situations. We believe that mistakes must be acknowledged, lessons must be learned, and accountability must be taken seriously.
As an organization, we want to make it clear that this behavior does not represent the identity, principles, or reputation of Mighty Warriors Basketball. We have always believed that basketball is more than a game. It is an opportunity to build character, strengthen brotherhood, inspire the younger generation, and use our God-given talents for a greater purpose.
Our commitment remains the same: WE PLAY THE GAME WE LOVE FOR GOD'S GLORY. And if we truly play for His glory, our conduct must reflect the values we profess—not only when we win, but also when we face adversity, disagreements, and defeat.
In recognition of the seriousness of this matter, disciplinary action will be imposed. Coach Gerald Ylaya will not be allowed to coach during our Battle for Third Place in the Mayor Ig-ig Moreno Open Commercial Basketball League 2026. This decision reflects our commitment to accountability and our responsibility to uphold the standards expected of everyone representing our team.
To Tuburan 360 and the player involved: We extend our sincere apology for the incident and for any disrespect or offense caused by our coach's actions. We recognize the importance of treating every opponent with dignity, regardless of the intensity of competition. Rivalry should challenge us to become better athletes, not lead us to disrespect one another. We hope this incident will not overshadow the respect that should exist between teams who share the same passion for basketball.
To the tournament committee and organizers: We sincerely apologize for the incident and for any negative impact it may have had on the integrity and image of the tournament. We respect your responsibility to maintain discipline, fairness, and professionalism throughout the competition. We acknowledge the importance of the standards you uphold and remain committed to cooperating with the committee and respecting its decisions.
To our supporters and the entire Mighty Warriors family: We are sorry for the disappointment this incident may have caused. We understand that representing Mighty Warriors Basketball is a privilege that comes with responsibility. Your trust in us means more than the results we achieve on the court, and we are committed to earning that trust through our actions, attitude, and conduct moving forward.
To the young basketball players and online viewers who witnessed the incident: We sincerely apologize. You deserve to see athletes and coaches demonstrate that strength is not measured by aggression, that pride is not worth losing respect, and that true sportsmanship means maintaining composure even when emotions run high. We hope this incident will serve as a lesson that mistakes must be acknowledged and that choosing humility and respect is always the better path.
To the basketball community: Let this be a reminder that we are all responsible for protecting the game we love. Competition will always bring passion, pressure, and intense emotions, but none of these should become an excuse for disrespectful behavior. We may represent different teams, communities, and organizations, but we are united by our love for basketball. Let us continue to promote discipline, mutual respect, healthy competition, and a positive environment for the next generation.
We cannot undo what has happened, but we can choose how we respond to it. An apology must go beyond words; it must be accompanied by genuine reflection, accountability, and a commitment to change.
At Mighty Warriors Basketball, we remain committed to learning from this incident and ensuring that the values we stand for are reflected in our conduct. We will continue to remind our players, coaches, and everyone who represents our organization that wearing our name is not merely about playing basketball—it is about carrying a responsibility to our team, our community, and the God we serve.
We ask for understanding, but we do not use it as an excuse. We ask for forgiveness, but we recognize that it must be accompanied by accountability. Most importantly, we commit ourselves to doing better.
May we be reminded that a true warrior is not only one who fights hard on the court, but one who has the humility to admit mistakes, the courage to accept consequences, and the character to treat others with respect.
Let us choose forgiveness over anger, humility over pride, and peace over conflict.
We pray that this incident will become an opportunity for growth, reconciliation, and a renewed commitment to the values that make basketball more than just a game.
We pray, we play, and we strive to win for His glory.
TO GOD BE ALL THE GLORY!
Respectfully,
Mighty Warriors Basketball
