BSC Concludes Last Sailing Activity of the Year 2025

The Balangay Sailing Club (BSC) conducted its Last Sailing Activity of the Year 2025 on December 13, 2025, sailing from Cubi-Cubi, Gumamela Beach to La Vista, Conchita Beach. The activity was participated in by BSC First Year and Second Year students, together with Mr. Brian Jones, Mr. Michael Foley and Mr. Doug Skinner, following the members’ request to hold a final sailing activity before the year ended.

The sailing began with the proper hoisting of sails and departed from Cubi-Cubi toward Nasipit, where participants navigated against the current. The group briefly stayed at La Vista for lunch and a short discussion on future plans before sailing back and circling the fish cage along the route.

The activity concluded with the unrigging, washing, and securing of the sailboats in the boat shed, marking a meaningful close to BSC’s sailing activities for 2025 and reinforcing teamwork, discipline, and seamanship among its members.

UST Researcher Visits Balangay Sailing Club for Maritime Museum Thesis

The Balangay Sailing Club (BSC) welcomed Ms. Mikaela Judd R. Acuña, a 5th-year BS Architecture student from the University of Santo Tomas (UST). She visited Butuan City from November 1 to 5, 2025, to study the proposed site for her maritime museum thesis.

Ms. Acuña's thesis focuses on preserving and celebrating the Philippines' maritime heritage. She aims to explore how maritime museums can serve as cultural hubs that integrate spatial storytelling, participatory learning, and community involvement. During her visit, she gathered information and insights from BSC to contribute to her study.

The visit reflects BSC's growing recognition as a center for maritime learning and inspiration for academic research. BSC served as a key reference for Ms. Acuña in understanding local maritime culture and education. Her research visit was a valuable opportunity for knowledge sharing and collaboration.
