The Bontoc Brave Mountaineers Club delivered a remarkable performance at the 2025 Wrestling National Championships held from August 29โ31 at the Tagaytay Combat Sports Complex, proudly bringing home 10 medals: 4 golds, 2 silvers, and 4 bronzes.
The squad, representing Bontoc and Mountain Province, proved their mettle against some of the countryโs top wrestling talents. With grit, discipline, and sheer determination, the Brave Mountaineers not only secured podium finishes but also opened doors for international exposure.

Dongpopen commanded her bracket with decisive pinfalls, earning not only a gold medal but also the chance to represent the Philippines at the Asian Youth Games in Bahrain this October. Ticong impressed with a gold in Greco-Roman and a bronze in freestyle, showcasing his versatility. Diwayan battled valiantly for silver in a tightly contested final, while Kanongkong shined as one of the tournamentโs revelations, snatching both gold (Greco-Roman) and silver (freestyle). His performance caught the eye of trainers from Kazakhstan, leading to an exclusive invitation to join the Wrestling Association of the Philippines for advanced training.
Chalotagโs consistency also stood out as he earned a gold and bronze across different disciplines, while Limog and Afidchao both displayed courage and resilience to clinch bronze medals.
โThis achievement is a collective victory made possible through the unwavering support of sponsors, families, and our community,โ said Coach Phoebe Grace S. Abad, crediting the teamโs success to unity and preparation.
The Brave Mountaineers were guided by Coaches Phoebe Abad, Lyzer Chalotag, and Sherwin F. Angagka, who also doubled as the teamโs medic throughout the tournament.
The victories earned by the Brave Mountaineers are more than just medals, they are stepping stones for greater representation at the SEA Games and potentially the Asian Games. With their momentum, the wrestlers of Mountain Province continue to prove that perseverance and passion can carry them to the countryโs biggest sporting stages.
