Mother of Ateneo Blue Eagles player Chukwuemeka Divine Adili has raised serious concerns regarding the circumstances surrounding her son's tragic passing, stressing that he was not capable of swimming and should never have been placed in such a dangerous situation without proper safety precautions.
In an emotional statement, she questioned the decisions made by those responsible for the activity, emphasizing that her son's inability to swim should have been considered before allowing him to enter open waters.
"He doesn't know how to swim. I think what what they should have done is to ask the 'do you know how to swim?'. They didn't provide anything for their safety. They just carried them to the big ocean like that."
According to Divine's mother, basic safety protocols should have been followed, including determining whether participants were capable swimmers and ensuring that appropriate safety equipment was available. She expressed disbelief that the players were allegedly taken into the ocean without sufficient protective measures, arguing that such precautions could have made a critical difference.
Her statement adds to the growing calls from both the Adili and Baterbonia families for a full and transparent account of what happened during the training activity. The grieving mother is seeking answers, accountability, and clarity regarding the decisions that led to her son's death, maintaining that the tragedy could have been prevented had proper safety assessments and precautions been in place.
As public scrutiny continues to intensify, many supporters have echoed the family's appeal for a thorough investigation into the incident and the safety measures that were or were not implemented before the athletes entered the water.
