WING CHUN

Which form is good and which form is not good? Or which form is better or which form is best.?

There are three hand forms in Wing Chun.
First form.
Second form
Third form.

First form or Siu Lim Tao is an introduction to Wing Chun. Very basic with feet rooted to the ground and just the arms and hands moving forward most times and to the sides sometimes.

It's purpose is to learn basic structure or stance by learning to stand rooted to the ground without moving or taking steps forward, side or backwards. In a fight Wing Chun does not actually move back as we stand our ground except in certain emergency cases you adjust a little but comes back still holding our ground.

In second form there are movements side to side and forwards as well with arms and hands. More applications from the first form.

In third form or Bill Jee which translate to darting hands or finger has sweeps and turns and forward movements. Meant for attacks and recovery situations.

After the third form comes the wooden dummy forn. I think everything you learned from first, second and third is applied here with added other applications of course.

Then we have three pole forms. Our pole is six feet in length exactly which is different from the longer eight feet pole. I prefer and like the six feet pole better and more practical in todays world. The long eight feet pole or longer are good for fighting enemies on horse back for those extra reach. People don't ride on horseback anymore, they ride on cars or bikes.

Then finally comes the butterfly knives or Bart Jaam Dao. The highest form and level in the Wing Chun curriculum. You apply your Wing Chun skills using a pair of butterfly knives. In other words the knives are just an extension of your arms. Movements and applications are still the same but more lethal as there's a blade at the end which can chop, cut or stab.

Of all the forms my favorite is the Bart Jaam Dao along with the Woman form or Gulao Form from Gulao Wing Chun. (We also cover Gulao Wing Chun in our group)

But as time goes by I realised there's no form better than the other. Each form has its function and purpose. Come to think of it the basic of all or the beginner form Sui Lim Tao is the most important of all because it contains all the hand movements the other forms contains. Just applying them in other forms.

On the other hand knives form gets more credit at it is the deadliest of all the form. Just one chop, cut or stab and job done.

There's a twist. The Butterfly Knives becomes extention of the arms very deadly but when you take out the weapons off the hands the hands becomes the weapons.
