Weighing of fish
Standard club rules apply for the weighing of fish.
• There will be no extension of time allowed. Fish reported hooked up prior to lines out can be fought, captured or tagged after lines out, but the vessel must still be inside the marina prior to the specified time.
• If a boat has mechanical problems and cannot return to the marina prior to the specified time, the fish may be transferred to another boat, accompanied by the angler and all tackle used to boat the fish. This boat must still be inside the marina by the specified time.
• If a competing boat is returning to the marina and the location and potential speed of the boat is such that the committee is satisfied that the boat would reach the gantry on time, the committee may divert the boat for urgent SAR duties in which case weigh in time will be extended accordingly.
• Set procedures are to be followed for all club, GFAPNG & IGFA records.
Tournament Radio Rules
• An operating and permanently connected VHF radio tuned to Channels 83 and 84 must be installed in your boat. Hand held radios or mobile telephones are not accepted as your primary source of contact. Disqualification will result for non compliance with this rule.
• Radio silence will be observed from the hour to 5 past the hour, and from the half hour to 5 past the half hour, every hour.
• Your vessel must register with MGFC Base prior to or as you are leaving the RPYC marina. MGFC Base will require the number of people, competing anglers and non fishing passengers, aboard the vessel.
Radio Schedules (skeds)
Channel 83 will be used for this competition, standard radio rules apply.
• Position and status skeds are carried out at 5 past the hour, every hour during the entire competition. Your radio operator will give a 5 minute warning that a sked is eminent. Please have your grid position and score ready for when your boat is called.
• When called for the hourly sked MGFC Base will require 3 pieces of information.
1. Your boat name.
2. Your grid position from your club chart.
3. Your 4 digit score.
• Your 4 digit score accumulates throughout the day’s fishing and works as follows.
First digit Number of strikes/hits.
Second digit Number of hook ups.
Third digit Number of fish landed.
Fourth digit Number of fish tagged and released.
Missed Skeds.
• If you miss one sked, it is noted.
• If you miss 2 skeds, your boat will be disqualified.
• If you miss 3 skeds, the entire fleet stops fishing to begin a search for your boat.
• If you are aware that you have missed a sked it is important that you contact MGFC Base. We still want to know you are ok or require assistance.
Missed Skeds cont....
• Use any means necessary to contact MGFC Base. If there is another vessel in your vicinity, in the competition or not, approach that vessel and ask them to contact MGFC Base to inform Base of your status.
• Any vessel having radio problems is to return to the Marina immediately and inform MGFC Base upon your return.
Hook Ups & Captures
• All hook ups, captures, tags and losses are to be reported to MGFC Base.
• Your radio operator will confirm the details of your capture/tag etc and allocate a capture number to all captures.
• All captured fish are to have a tail tag attached with the angler’s name and the capture number clearly labelled. Your radio operator will allocate the capture number upon reporting the capture.
Assistance to other boats
• You may be requested to assist another boat for SAR duties. This will be done at the radio operator and Tournament Directors discretion.
• Late entry to the marina will be acceptable in this situation.
Arrival back into the marina
• MGFC Base must be notified of your return to the marina and that you are signing off for the day.
• Please inform the base if you have fish to be weighed or tag cards to present to the Weighmaster.
On behalf of the committee of the Port Moresby Game Fishing Club I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their participation in the competition and adherence to the radio rules. These radio rules have been developed over the years with the safety of you and your crew in mind, we care about your safety.
Please help our volunteer radio operators do their job.
