My Soccer Journey
My name is Kwina Ewande Ambang. I am proud to say I was a Pioneer soccer player in Morobe. My journey began in a Pivotal time, just a few years after PNG gained independence in September
16, 1975, when the idea of girls playing soccer was brand new.
I remember Vividly.
One morning during school assembly, our head Master announced “Some people from soccer association will be here to select girls to play soccer. If you are interested, meet at the basketball
court around 3:30pm.”
After class, I hurried back to my dormitory, changed into my sportswear, and walked down the
pavement to the basketball courtyard and met three other girls and the soccer representatives.
They then introduced themselves, and that was the first time soccer game was ever introduced to us, and they gave us our very first training schedule.
That day marked the beginning of my four (4) years with Mopi Club, from 1980 -1983
I played as a formidable defender for Mopi Club, and I made sure the ball never reached the goal
Keeper.
What’s More!
Mopi Club was the defending champion, We were a dominant team, and I was so proud to be part of that strong defence.
My pioneering spirit on the field never left me.
Today, I’m the proud founder of the girls' soccer club called Morobe Tulip, which will soon celebrate its 5th anniversary. My commitment to growing the sport also extends to my company, which proudly sponsors the National Womens Soccer League during its yearly seasons.
Through! Morobe Tulip and our sponsorship I will continue to help shape the future of the Womens National Soccer League here in Morobe, empowering the next generation of female soccer champions.
For me, soccer is more than just a game. It has taught me, Self-Discipline, Respect, peace and Love.
“Soccer Shaped me to who I am today
