The IPF will soon be heading to Austin, Texas for its first World Championships of the year - the 2024 World Classic & Equipped Bench Press Championships. Final nominations have now closed and can be viewed on goodlift.info.
This event covers both classic and equipped bench press and includes all age categories, from Sub-Junior to Masters 4. The format of the event has the masters lifting in the morning sessions, the juniors and sub-juniors lifting in the afternoon sessions and the open class forming the prime time session each evening.
The equipped part of the event begins on Tuesday 28th May and runs through to Saturday 1st June. The prime time session on the final three days of the equipped competition will be broadcast live on CBS Sports and there also will be a highlights show covering the whole event broadcast at a later date.
Keep an eye out for Daiki Kodama (Japan), lifting now in the 83kg class after years in the 74s. He has 20 world titles to his name already and will be looking to nudge that number along. His long-time rival, Ivan Chuprynko (Ukraine) has remained in the 74kg class. Chuprynko won the best lifter award last year and is capable of much more than the 255kg he is nominated with here.
Kostiantyn Musiienko (Ukraine) has dominated in the 93kg class for some time but he has now moved up to the 105kg class. His world record bench in the 93s is a massive 351.5 kilograms so we can’t wait to see what he can do in a heavier weight class.
Also look out for Garrett Bentley (Canada). He was the bronze medallist last year behind teammate Shane Martin who won gold, but he has added a lot of kilos to his bench since then and is carrying momentum from his win at the UK Arnold in March.
With 246 men on the roster, this promises to be a fantastic showcase of equipped benching. Streamed live on our YouTube channel and page, with select sessions broadcast live on CBS Sports, you won’t have to miss a moment.
