Mt Olympus Ski Area Mt Olympus is a back country ski area located in the Southern Alps of New Zealand's South Island.

From the beginning, it has been our goal to foster growth and inclusion through outdoor discovery by providing the necessary resources and experiences to thrive. Since 1932, we have provided opportunities to share valuable experiences in the mountains for all generations. 🚨 ATTENTION ALL CLUBBIES: It’s nearly time for the most prestigious (and most ridiculous) event of the year! 🚨

Dig out your most ‘stylish’ attire and get ready to do the turns of your life it for the Windwhistle Ski Club Club Champs! This is a members-only event for competitors, but spectators are absolutely welcome and encouraged to join the fun!

And the theme this year? “ANYTHING BUT SKI GEAR”. We want to see your most outrageous outfits on the slopes and feel free to raid our dress up box for that extra pizzaz.

🗓️ Saturday, 5 September 2026 Postponement date: Sunday, 6 September 2026
🏁 CATEGORIES: From the chaotic Chinese Downhill to the refined Veterans and everything in between – we have classes for all ages and all abilities (and outfits)!
⏰ TIME: Racing kicks off at 11am. Don’t be late or you’ll miss the carnage.
📝 REGISTER: Sign up in the Top Hut on the day. No excuses.

Field update for SATURDAY 29th!
The wild weather has started to calm and although our terrain may have some new friends (avalanches) inbounds. We are ready to welcome you for a fun weekend!

Our access tow line (much like our terrain) is in sporty condition. For those experienced tow riders it is good to go otherwise it is a short walk up our summer road.

The storm has cleared!
The winds and snow have delivered us with great skiing in our inbounds terrain. Tomorrow we are hoping to deliver our full operational package with all hiking and tows spinning!

Gear up and prep for full send! Registrations for the Mt Olympus Freeride Open (M**O 2026) are open!

M**O is one of the absolute highlights of our calendar, a true celebration of New Zealand freeride at the Playground of the Gods. No sanitised courses here; just steep, ungroomed alpine terrain, epic line choices, and good old-fashioned grassroots camaraderie.

Whether you’re throwing down off natural features or coming up to cheer from the basin with a brew, the vibe is unmatched.

EVENT DETAILS
🗓️ Weather Window: Monday 14th – Wednesday 16th September 2026
🏂 Categories: Ski & Snowboard (16–35 Open & 35+ Masters)
🎟️ Entry: $115 Non-Members / $60 Mt Olympus Members (includes your comp day ski pass!)
⚠️ Compulsory Gear: Approved helmet, back protector, + avalanche transceiver, shovel, and probe (must pass safety inspection).

BEDS IN THE TOP HUT 🛌
To make sure our competitors get space on the mountain, public Top Hut bookings are temporarily closed! Registered riders get exclusive lock-in rates for accommodation and skiing during the event window.
👉 Must book before August 20th by emailing ⁠[email protected]⁠ before beds open to the public. (Note: Top Hut is R18 during comp days).
