Proud of our Clubbie Steve Bayley

Winning four medals across two Paralympic Winter Games, Paralympian #115 Steven Bayley can look back with immense pride on his Para alpine skiing career.

After losing his leg in a car accident in 1994 he found an outlet for his competitive instincts on the slopes. A bronze medallist in the Men’s Giant Slalom LW4 on his Paralympic debut in Nagano 1998, four years later at Salt Lake City 2002 he claimed gold in the Men’s Giant Slalom LW4 and bronze medals in the Men’s Downhill LW4 and Men’s Super-G LW4.

What a Weekend. The Mt O work party crew absolutely smashed it! 💪🏾

The Bottom Hut got some long‑overdue love with a full wall repaint — goodbye tired old cream, hello fresh Resene Merino 🐏. The new bunk layout started taking shape too, and we prepped the space for the upgraded fire, wood box, and shower. Big transformations incoming!

Up at the Top Hut, the brand‑new freezer was installed in the pantry, freeing up the old freezer room to become a spacious new cleaning area. Game changer.

And out on the slopes? The team went full grind mode — pouring concrete, digging trenches, and laying cable for the Handheld Tow extension. Huge mahi by everyone!!

These are epic upgrades that help future‑proof the mountain, and we’re incredibly grateful to everyone who showed up and put in the hard work.

We’re back at it again in two weeks — if you haven’t registered yet, now’s the time. There’s plenty more to finish and every pair of hands counts! 🙌

This is the summer we build, fix, extend, dig, and future-proof the mountain we all love so when winter hits hard (in the best possible way) the field and accommodation is ready.

We have projects on the go along with the routine summer jobs needing clubbies.

Projects don’t build themselves — they’re built by members who care. Every person who gives their time, whether it be a day or the whole weekend, makes a difference.
Come for the mahi, stay for the pride of saying “yeah, I helped build that.”

Plus you’ll earn work party days that turn into member discounts.
Big ups for those committee members and clubbies who have made it up the field to help already this summer. Great effort.

Check your newsletter for remaining work party dates before the season kicks off.

With its ever-changing snow and weather conditions, winter in New Zealand is often described as a roller coaster. Forecasts call for a snow dump that then turns to rain, ski fields are accessed by treacherous 4WD tracks, and plans change by the minute. Skiing in New Zealand is a real “Fickle Business”.
