Kumeū 2024
What a pressure cooker environment, hot humid days. Competing against a stacked line up of the best 24 BBQ teams in NZ. Being such a new team in just our 3rd competition. Our goals were simple. Hand in every protein in the window and get at least 1 call a day. Without our main man Rosae it was going to be a challenging weekend.
Day 1
Chicken 18th
Ribs 5th
Pork 10th
Brisket 14th
Great feeling to hear our name called for 2 proteins. Steve was pumped with his 5th place ribs and made sure our neighbours knew all about it. Mr consistent Simon snatching a 10th in pork. We really struggled with Chicken and Brisket so we knew we had to make some adjustments. Being a double header it was great being able to run it back with some changes and see if that is what the judges are looking for.

Pumped, absolutely stoked! 3 calls. Most notably our chicken redemption. Kirby took the lead on the chicken and made some great decisions to elevate our chicken score. Simon coming through with another consistent Pork box with his highest placing so far at 6th. What was really impressive was our appearance scores perfect 50s in chicken, pork and Ribs also a perfect taste score of 150 in chicken. Amy’s parsley boxes giving us the edge on appearance scores 🔥
