Measuring a horse's hooves for hoof pads involves gathering two primary dimensions: Width and Length. Pads are usually placed in boots or used medically, so taking accurate, measurements ensures your padding provides the best support.
Hoof Woolly Soles also have the advantage that you may cut them down to size.
1. PreparationTiming: The best time to measure is 1 to 6 days after a fresh trim.
2. Cleanliness: Use a hoof pick and wire brush to thoroughly clean the sole, frog, and wall. Mud or debris will throw off your measurements.
3.Stance: Have the horse stand squarely on a flat, hard, level surface with weight distributed evenly on the hoof you are measuring
Sizing the Pad
Centimetres: Measure in centermetres
Check the Fit:
If your length and width fall into different sizes, usually you should size up and trim the pad down to fit inside the boot.
Individual Hooves:
Always measure both the front and hind hooves width at the widest point of the hoof. Front and back hooves are rarely the same size.
