Want to sharpen your umpiring skills, learn from the best, or take the first step towards becoming an umpire? We’ve got two great opportunities coming up, both being led by Luan Kloppers, the Northern Districts Regional Umpire Manager and Trainer.

The first one is for all our current umpires, and anyone who is interested in joining our umpiring team:

🏆 𝗜𝗡𝗗𝗢𝗢𝗥 𝗖𝗥𝗜𝗖𝗞𝗘𝗧 – 𝗙𝗜𝗡𝗔𝗟𝗦 𝗡𝗜𝗚𝗛𝗧 𝗥𝗘𝗩𝗜𝗘𝗪 🏆

Four teams arrived.
Three games were played.
One champion was crowned.
Finals Night promised pressure, drama and the possibility of an all-Warriors grand final.
Instead...
One team confirmed its dominance.
One team produced another massive upset.
And one prediction was made to look very silly.
Let’s get into it.

👑 𝗪𝗛𝗔𝗡𝗚𝗔𝗥𝗘𝗜 𝗪𝗔𝗥𝗥𝗜𝗢𝗥𝗦 𝗖𝗥𝗨𝗦𝗛 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗦𝗟𝗔𝗖𝗞𝗖𝗔𝗣𝗦
𝗪𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗶 𝗪𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗿𝘀 𝟵𝟲 𝗱𝗲𝗳. 𝗦𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗖𝗮𝗽𝘀 𝟰𝟱

This was supposed to be the grand final before the grand final.
The minor premiers against the competition’s most dangerous late-season team.
Consistency against momentum.
A heavyweight battle expected to go right down to the wire.
Whangarei Warriors had other ideas.
From the opening exchanges, the Warriors took control and never loosened their grip. They piled on the pressure, shut down the SlackCaps and turned the night’s most anticipated semi-final into an emphatic statement.
SlackCaps entered Finals Night in frightening form after scoring 156 in their final regular-season match and eliminating the defending champions in the quarter-finals.
But finals cricket has a way of ending momentum very quickly.
The Warriors were clinical.
Relentless.
Uncompromising.
A 51-run semi-final victory sent them into the grand final with their confidence sky-high and left absolutely no doubt about which team remained the competition’s benchmark.

🤍 𝗢𝗙𝗙 𝗪𝗛𝗜𝗧𝗘 𝗖𝗔𝗣𝗦 𝗗𝗢 𝗜𝗧 𝗔𝗚𝗔𝗜𝗡
𝗢𝗳𝗳 𝗪𝗵𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗖𝗮𝗽𝘀 𝟲𝟬 𝗱𝗲𝗳. 𝗪𝗶𝗰𝗸𝗲𝘁 𝗪𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗿𝘀 𝟭𝟯

Surely they couldn’t produce another upset...
Could they?
After knocking out the red-hot Saffas in the quarter-finals, Off White Caps entered their semi-final against Wicket Warriors as underdogs once again.
Wicket Warriors had been piling on runs for weeks.
They were the competition’s form team.
They were tipped to reach the final.
They scored 13.
Off White Caps delivered an extraordinary defensive performance, completely shutting down a side that had looked almost unstoppable heading into Finals Night.
Thirteen runs.
Let that sink in.
The Caps didn’t just upset Wicket Warriors.
They dismantled them.
Composed with the bat.
Brilliant under pressure.
Absolutely ruthless in the field.
Back-to-back finals upsets earned Off White Caps a place in the grand final and ensured there would be no all-Warriors showdown.
The prediction?
Straight in the bin.

🏆 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗚𝗥𝗔𝗡𝗗 𝗙𝗜𝗡𝗔𝗟
𝗪𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗶 𝗪𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗿𝘀 𝟴𝟰 𝗱𝗲𝗳. 𝗢𝗳𝗳 𝗪𝗵𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗖𝗮𝗽𝘀 𝟲𝟮

The competition’s benchmark.
Against the finals series’ giant-killers.
Whangarei Warriors entered the final as favourites, but Off White Caps had already shown twice that reputations and ladder positions meant very little to them.
Could they complete one of the great championship runs?
For a while, they believed.
But the Warriors had been the best team throughout the season for a reason.
With the title on the line, they delivered once again.
The Warriors posted a strong total of 84 and then absorbed everything the Caps threw at them. Off White Caps continued fighting, but this was one challenge too many after their remarkable journey through the finals.
Whangarei Warriors held their nerve, closed out a 22-run victory and completed an outstanding championship season.
Minor premiers.
Finals Night dominators.
And now...
Indoor cricket champions.

👑 𝗖𝗛𝗔𝗠𝗣𝗜𝗢𝗡𝗦: 𝗪𝗛𝗔𝗡𝗚𝗔𝗥𝗘𝗜 𝗪𝗔𝗥𝗥𝗜𝗢𝗥𝗦 👑
Whangarei Warriors set the standard from the opening round and maintained it when the pressure was at its greatest.
They lost just once during the regular season.
They won their quarter-final comfortably.
They demolished the in-form SlackCaps in the semi-final.
Then they defeated the competition’s giant-killers to claim the trophy.
Clinical from beginning to end.
A thoroughly deserved championship.

👏 𝗖𝗥𝗘𝗗𝗜𝗧 𝗧𝗢 𝗢𝗙𝗙 𝗪𝗛𝗜𝗧𝗘 𝗖𝗔𝗣𝗦
They may not have lifted the trophy, but Off White Caps produced an incredible finals campaign.
They eliminated the red-hot Saffas.
They restricted Wicket Warriors to just 13.
And they pushed the minor premiers in the grand final.
Two huge upsets and a deserved place on the biggest stage.
They arrived at the finals as outsiders.
They finished as grand finalists.
A brilliant effort.

The defending champions were eliminated.
The form teams were stopped.
The predictions were destroyed.
And the competition’s most consistent team finished the season holding the trophy.

𝙏𝙃𝙍𝙊𝙒𝘽𝘼𝘾𝙆 𝙏𝙃𝙐𝙍𝙎𝘿𝘼𝙔🏏

Northland had a successful run of Hawke Cup games in the 1982/1983 season that started with a 1st innings win against Nelson, giving them the chance to defend the Cup against North and South Canterbury, before a defeat against Hawkes Bay that ended their tenure that season.

They managed to get their revenge the following season with a win against HB at McLean Park to take the Cup back - only to lose it to Nelson on their first defense the next game.

It was a strong era in cricket for Northland, with names like Child, Lloyd, Cooper, Young, Dunning, Cunis and Treiber featuring heavily, and setting the platform for future Northland sides🏏

Eight teams arrived believing they could win the title.
Four are still alive.
The regular season is officially forgotten, predictions have already been made to look silly, and finals cricket once again reminded everyone that reputation means absolutely nothing once the first ball is bowled.
Well...
Almost nothing.
Let's get into it.

⚔️ 𝗢𝗙𝗙 𝗪𝗛𝗜𝗧𝗘 𝗖𝗔𝗣𝗦 𝗦𝗣𝗥𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗨𝗣𝗦𝗘𝗧
𝗢𝗳𝗳 𝗪𝗵𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗖𝗮𝗽𝘀 𝟴𝟮 𝗱𝗲𝗳. 𝗦𝗮𝗳𝗳𝗮𝘀 𝟳𝟰
Well...
Finals cricket is all about handling pressure.
The Saffas entered the finals as arguably the hottest team in the competition, riding back-to-back statement victories and carrying the confidence of a side nobody wanted to face.
Off White Caps clearly didn't get the memo.
After falling heartbreakingly short in last week's last-ball thriller, they embraced the occasion better and produced one of their best performances of the season to eliminate one of the premiership favourites.
Disciplined.
Composed.
Clinical.
The Saffas threatened throughout, but the Caps never blinked.
A cruel way for a brilliant campaign to finish.

There was plenty of talk beforehand about experience.
About finals pedigree.
About whether Lion Red could drag the game into an arm wrestle.
Instead...
Wicket Warriors simply kept throwing punches.
The competition's form team continued exactly where they left off, piling on another huge total and ending Lion Red's season in emphatic fashion.
They've now won with authority for weeks.
Confidence?
Sky high.
Momentum?
Still building.
The scary part is they don't look like they're done yet.
Lion Red's veterans have given this competition some unforgettable finals performances over the years.
This time, they ran into a team that's playing frighteningly good cricket.

😤 𝗦𝗟𝗔𝗖𝗞𝗖𝗔𝗣𝗦 𝗪𝗜𝗡 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗚𝗥𝗨𝗗𝗚𝗘 𝗠𝗔𝗧𝗖𝗛

Whangarei Warriors once again proved why they've spent almost the entire season setting the benchmark, comfortably progressing to yet another semi-final.
LB Collision can hold their heads high.
Making finals was already the club's best season to date, and while the dream ends here, there's plenty to build on.
The Warriors, meanwhile, remain exactly where everyone expected them to be.
Three wins from a title has become two.
