Nothing in life really comes easy, and becoming the best Pilates instructor I can be is no exception.

Every course, every certification, every weekend away from my family, every hour spent studying biomechanics, rehabilitation and movement has been a choice.

A choice to keep learning.
A choice to keep improving.
A choice to give my clients the best experience I possibly can.

The best thing about your Pilates instructor should be their understanding of the human body.

Not because they need to know everything, but because your body deserves more than a one-size-fits-all approach. It deserves somebody who understands movement, can adapt when needed, and continues to learn long after their initial qualification.

This journey has challenged me in ways I never expected. It’s required courage, sacrifice, time, energy and a whole lot of money. But I’d do it all again in a heartbeat.

Because you deserve an instructor who is invested in your results, committed to their craft, and never stops learning.

If I had time to teach you only ONE thing that could significantly change your pelvic floor health, back pain and nervous system… it would be how to breathe.

Yeah. Dumb right?

There’s no magic trick. No abdominal crunch. No b***y band kickbacks. No “just hit the gym 5x a week.”

You’re probably thinking:
“But I’m already breathing.”

…are you though?

Because I’m not talking about that shallow-ass stress breathing most people are stuck in all day.

I’m talking about diaphragmatic breathing.

The kind of breath that expands your ribcage, including the back of your ribs, giving your thoracic spine movement and your nervous system more space to down regulate.

The pelvic floor responds to the diaphragm too. Lengthening and lifting with each breath as pressure changes through the system.

Your breath affects pressure.
Pressure affects movement.
Movement affects tension, stability and symptoms.

Sometimes the answer isn’t another stretch or harder workout.

Sometimes it’s learning how to breathe in a way your body can actually work with..

The word “just” is such a tiny word… but it carries so much weight.

So many people minimise themselves before they’ve even finished introducing who they are.

As if caregiving, teaching, supporting, creating, helping, organising, healing or leading somehow needs to be justified to be valuable.

Your role does not need to sound impressive to be important.

You are allowed to take up space in your own introduction.
You are the whole sentence.

Celebrating a pretty epic team with movement, questionable dance moves and a whole lot of laughs.

There’s something really special about businesses that choose to give back to their team through wellness. A chance to move their bodies, reconnect back into themselves, decompress from busy work days and address the postural aches and pains that come with long hours in the clinic.

When I first met Ngareka, I had only just opened Central Core and she was not far off opening her own business too. Since then we’ve been through two pregnancies together (yes… she came to Pilates on her due date 😅), supported each other through Covid, sent love during hard seasons and honestly, I’ve adored helping her move her body through all of life’s seasons.

Watching women build businesses, support their teams and still prioritise their own wellbeing will always be something I deeply admire.

They call it luck.

Nah. Let me show you what luck actually looks like.

It’s turning up to film content with zero ideas and doing it anyway. It’s teaching a full class when your anxiety is loud and your skin doesn’t feel like your own. It’s missing moments with your kids - the ones you can’t get back - because you said you’d show up, so you show up. It’s curating every single class with care on the days it would be so much easier not to. It’s refusing to be mediocre, even when mediocre would be easier.

I am so genuinely grateful for this studio, for the incredible humans who fill it, for work that lights me up, and for two instructors who are honestly just the best. I don’t take any of it for granted.

But luck didn’t build this. Consistency did. Commitment did. Stubbornness did. Showing up on the hard days - sick, sad, doubting everything - and doing it anyway did.

That’s the real story.

We don’t do Pilates to be good at Pilates, we do Pilates to be good at life and here is the perfect example. I mean Heidi comes 3 times a week consistently and shes fantastic at Pilates but what has really changed for her is her ability to move stronger through life.

I’m a scientific type of gal too so I’m here for the data on this one but also for the feeling of being stronger, of having the confidence to hit the stairs at the Great Wall of China.

7 years of teaching Pilates. Hundreds of bodies helped. A studio built on caffeine, love and the support of my favourite people - you.

And for most of those years I introduced myself with “just”.

“Oh, I’m just a Pilates Instructor”.

Not anymore.

If you’re out here shrinking yourself with the “just” - please stop. You don’t have to do that.

Whether you’re a stay-at-home parent (you da actual MVP), working full time in a job you love, building something from scratch or still figuring it out - you are not a just. You are the whole sentence.

I built Central Core for people who want to feel that way in their bodies too. Strong, capable, worthy of taking up space. No just required.
