Whangarei Academy of Dance & Performing Arts is known for nurturing developing dancers in a safe and progressive way. We teach age and developmentally appropriate Ballet Tap & Modern technique classes from a syllabus that allows younger students more time for movement exploration while providing advanced students with the tools to become professional dancers, if they so choose. As a result, all of our students develop self-esteem, self-discipline, and a strong fitness level that will provide a powerful edge in any future endeavor. Dance Courses Available

We teach from the BTDA syllabus the following Genres. BALLET TAP MODERN LYRICAL ACROBATIC

CONTEMPORARY NATIONAL PERFORMING ARTS

We also teach from the NZAMD syllabus in Jazz and Tap

All students are encouraged to sit for exams once they are ready and all students perform in the end of the year Show.

🌈 CRAZY HAIR WEEK IS COMING TO WADPA! 🌈

We are almost at the end of Term 3 and we are celebrating in the BEST way possible!

💇 CRAZY HAIR WEEK
📅 Monday 21st September — all week!

That's right — come to class ALL week with the wildest, wackiest, most creative hair you can come up with!

Buns on top of buns? YES! 🌈 Glitter and ribbons everywhere? ABSOLUTELY!
The more over the top the better — we want to see it ALL!

👀 Just remember:
💃 You still need to be able to dance — so keep it secure!
👟 Correct dance shoes still need to be worn!
🏆 The crazier the better — bring your A game!

We cannot wait to see what everyone comes up with — nearly there WADPA dancers, you have absolutely smashed Term 3!

✨ ELEVATE — WHAT A NIGHT! ✨

We are still absolutely buzzing from our Senior Showcase — Elevate and honestly?! We could not be more proud!

Watching our seniors take to the stage at Forum North and deliver such a stunning, polished performance was one of those moments we will never forget — pure magic from start to finish! 🌟

And a huge shoutout to our incredible younger performance groups who came out to support and absolutely shone in their own right — you were all AMAZING!

As we now turn our focus towards our end of year show — moments like these remind us exactly why we do what we do!

The talent, the dedication and the heart that every single one of our WADPA dancers brings to the stage is truly something special — and the best is absolutely still to come!

This week we are celebrating some of the most wonderful, hardworking and dedicated people in our WADPA family — our incredible class assistants!

📅 14th – 18th September — Week 9

These amazing humans show up every single week to support our teachers, encourage our dancers and help make every class the best it can possibly be — and we honestly could NOT do what we do without them!

They cheer on our littlest dancers, help our students grow and bring so much heart and dedication to everything they do — all while doing it with a smile!

💜 If you see your class assistant this week — give them a big hug and let them know how appreciated they are!

Did you know that almost ALL ballet terminology is in French?! 🇫🇷

Ballet was developed in France and Italy in the 15th century and the French language has been used ever since — which means every WADPA ballet dancer is basically learning a second language without even realising it!

The last few weeks at WADPA have been absolutely WILD and we are only just catching our breath!

Here's what we have been up to…

✅ 6 days of BTDA Exams
✅ Dare to Dance Competition
✅ Assessments

All within the space of a few weeks — CRAZY doesn't even begin to cover it!

We could not be more proud of every single one of our incredible dancers who showed up, gave everything they had and absolutely smashed it through one of our biggest periods of the year!

The dedication, the hard work and the commitment from our dancers AND our amazing families has been nothing short of incredible — we see you and we are SO grateful!

Now if you need us… we'll be having a little lie down.....Joke!
