Seido Karate Whangarei

Seido Karate Whangarei Seido Karate is good for all sorts of peeps. Bring yourself, your kids (over 10), your neighbours... Seido Karate was founded by Tadashi Nakamura in 1976.

You don't have to be the biggest, the fittest, the toughest or the bendiest to do Seido Karate. Like all good martial arts, Seido is about personal development through physical and mental training. It's about helping students to find their own non-quitting attitude, to step beyond what they thought they could do to achieve something special. Now a 9th degree black belt, Kaicho Nakamura is chairman

of the World Seido Karate Organization, based in New York. Over 20,000 students throughout the world are members of the Seido family. Seido Karate Whangarei is run by Sei Shihan Rob Forlong and Jun Shihan Bronwyn Dalley (both 6th degree black belts).

Tadashi Nakamura began his martial journey under the intense and demanding system of Masutatsu Oyama. In Kyokushin, training was built on pressure, endurance, and full-contact reality—there was no room for weakness, only constant testing of body and spirit. Within this environment, Nakamura developed into a disciplined and highly skilled fighter, shaped by one of the toughest karate systems in the world.
But his journey did not stop at mastery. As he matured, Nakamura began to see Karate not only as combat training, but as a path for deeper human development. This shift in thinking eventually led him to create his own system, Seido Karate, where he could preserve strong technical foundations while also emphasizing character, respect, and personal growth.
His transformation from student to founder represents a powerful evolution in martial arts. He did not abandon what he learned—he expanded it. Kyokushin gave him the foundation, but his own vision gave him direction.
Tadashi Nakamura shows a rare truth in martial arts history:
true mastery is not only following a path, but sometimes creating a new one. 🔥
