I caught up on a lot of rugs and products the other day, and the rest of my orders are for the coming season so no rush, as per their future owner’s instructions, lol.
So… I had a rug here that was so badly damaged internally that it just wasn’t worth the cost of its initial purchase price to repair it. The whole lining inside the rug was ripped out, some all the way up and in to the binding, along with a few rips on the outer.
The previous owner left it with me for the hardware and patching material, although I only use new material for patching. I forgot all about it until the other day while cleaning up.
I also found a complete wool blanket that I use for dog covers/coats. My mind began ticking. Not like a bomb, more like an alarm clock just before it goes off - you know, like when your mum used to start calling out your name before you woke up for school and you’d find a place in your dream to fit that external noise so you could ignore it. Like a good dream. It works. …until your mum starts using threatening and convincing promises.
Everything about this shelved, damaged rug and blanket fitted into an idea. A light bulb moment, which is quite rear at my age now but…🤔
The result is a lightweight rug which is easier for me to throw over the horse, a warm liner that breathes, a liner that remains warm even when wet and is natural.
I had to cut and replace the tail liner and replace a few new straps and clips to complete the rug but it appears to be well received by the Imp although I doubt she’ll be needing her fire breathing methods to keep herself warm now.
