This is me at 40! 😁😁😁

I must admit I was scared of turning 40. Feeling like I'm a "middle aged" woman and not a "young mum" any more, ticking the next age catergory box. Thinking about future plans and realizing by the time I do X, Y, Z I'll be 45/50 etc.

But I caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror at the gym today and I didn't see an "older" woman. I saw a fit, strong, energized woman who is doing things my 20 or 30 year old self wouldn't have been capable of both physically and mentally.

The older I get the more comfortable I feel in my own skin. I am no longer a slave to the number on the scale and I've learnt to love this body that isn't perfect (I'm still uncoordinated AF 😂😂😂😂) but gave me 2 beautiful baby boys. I'm not winning any world records for my fitness by any means but for ME I'm pushing my limits and achieving things I never thought possible.

If you want to find peace and balance with food and exercise or to break through the mental barriers that have stopped you from acheiving your health and fitness goals in the past then watch this space. I'm working on some exciting developments and can't wait to share more over the next few months!

😊💪❤️

Sweet tooth people... Which one would you choose?

I'm out with my son today for coffee and cake and he chose the biggest fattest gooiest sugariest thing he could find. I chose a simple salted almond protein bar.

Both delicious but very different nutritional profiles and both provide something different emotionally too. Neither is "better" or "worse" than the other but they might be better or worse for your needs on any given day.

Today am chilling with my boy after an emotionally draining week. Instinctively I chose my protein slice because I wanted something delicious but that would leave me feeling energized and ready to fight another day. He chose the big fat pink slice of deliciousness because he's 4, he was hungry and it looked good to him.

As I was cutting his slice up I thought about having a bit of his but today I decided not to. I'm feeling a little vulnerable and a taste of something super sweet like that would do nothing but set me up to crave more of it so I happliy watched him tuck in and then left the remaining half (I knew he wouldn't finish the whole thing 🤣🤣) on the plate and enjoyed my less big and sweet but very satisfying treat myself.

On another day I might easily have chosen to share an ooey gooey slice with him and been emotionally fulfilled by that too but that wasn't today.

My point is that once you learn to tune into what your body needs emotionally and physically, you can start to make good food choices and you break free from the destructive cycle of "being good" and "being bad", "cheat meals", guilt and "starting again tomorrow".

No intuitive eating isn't a quick fix and it can be a long road to food freedom but honestly if I can do it, so can you I promise!

If you are tired of not knowing how to eat, feeling guilty and starting yet another diet reach out to see if I can help you break free too.

Have a great weekend 😊💪

Do you want to make a change to how you look and feel but don't know where to start?

Perhaps you've tried diets and health kicks before but never enjoyed it and just couldn't stick to it?

Or perhaps you just feel uncomfortable in your skin and would love to join a gym or start exercising but you are scared of looking silly or that you don't know what you're doing?

I'm Clare, a 39 year old mum and reps registered personal trainer and I've been there too.

The first picture is me 12 years ago. I was in my late 20s and desperately battling against weight gain but I could never quite win the battle. I was stuck in an exhausting cycle of restricting food, then binging and then restricting again. I spent hours doing cardio but I couldn't outrun my binge eating and the weight was slowly creeping on.

I covered myself in baggy sweaters to hide how uncomfortable I felt and rarely let anyone snap a picture of me (hence why this is the only, very blurry, one I could find from that time).

The 2nd picture is me now, at 39 I am fitter and stronger than I've ever been in my life and I'm finally confident in my own skin.

Being able to live life without the stress of constant dietting and binging or worrying about hiding myself away is truly the most liberating feeling in the world.

Last year I changed careers and started helping other women to learn to love themselves and to eat and move in a way that makes them feel GREAT!

It might be the middle of winter and we are all wrapped up warm in lots of layers but now is the perfect time to create some habits that will ensure you feel confident in your skin this summer.

If I can break free from the destructive diet cycle then you can too I promise and I'll be there every step of the way with you.

I'm currently running a winter special for new clients which is 4 x 60 minute PT sessions with me for just $200 (for cityfitness members- non members can pay an additional $10 per visit or can opt to join from $6.99/ week).

This is a huge discount from my standard rate and ts and cs apply but if you have been considering making a change then now is the perfect time to jump in and join my tribe of empowered women.

Best day yesterday at it was such a vibe! Loved competing with these strong fit ladies. If you had told me 3 years ago after the birth of my 2nd son that I would be doing this I wouldn't have believed you. Anything is possible. I'm 40 next year and fitter and stronger than I was at 30 or even 20. Hoping I am lucky enough to be able to do this for a long time to come 🤩

No gym today so workout was a 7.5km run in the HEAT. I've not been running much lately so this was a real push and it is also very hilly where I live so lots of challenging parts of this run. Got that amazing endorphin rush I get from running after I finished.

For those who say they don't like running (assuming no injuries or medical conditions stopping you) I really encourage you to try. Start with short intervals - say run for 1 minute and walk for 2-3 mins and build up from there. Running is the best portable workout and gives you such a mental boost.

Today I woke up late so missed my gym window and had to train at home with my kids in the garden.

I asked my 4 year old what I should do. He said "38 workout". So between us this is what we came up with:

Leo's 38 workout

38 minutes as many rounds and reps as possible

38 power cleans
38 burpees over the bar
38 pull ups
38 double under skips
38 sit ups

Repeat this circuit until the 38 minutes are up.

I was going to to the power cleans at 38kgs but honestly i felt so fatigued when I was warming up I wimped out and settled on 27kgs. A relatively light weight for me but today it felt HEAVY!

To say this workout was brutal and I felt sluggish and slow is an understatement but i moved through it slowly and now it's finished I'm so glad i did it.

Anyone want to give this one a go this week?

Switch the movements out for anything you enjoy or you have equipment for to make it achievable. Just move through it stopping to catch your breath when you need to.

If you are feeling lethargic after all the rich food and drinks at Christmas, just make yourself move even if it's not perfect, you only ever regret the workout you dont do!

Wow the run up to Christmas has been INSANELY busy this year.

With starting at and keeping my other business going as well as doing all the other stuff that needs doing in December to make sure my family has a wonderful Xmas, this ADHD mama is well and truly ready for a rest.

I find long cardio workouts really help with the brain overwhelm that comes with being an unmedicated ADHD'ER. Today's workout was

MURPH

1.6km run
100 pull ups
200 push ups
300 air squats
1.6km run

Partition the pull ups, push ups and squats however you like. Just start and finish with the run. Wear a weighted vest (optional)

I did 20 sets of

5 pull ups
10 push ups
15 air squats

And I did NOT wear a weighted vest.

Pull ups were strict with full lock out.

I did it on my own after a morning out with my family and I really loved getting lost in the rhythm of the workout and the challenge.

Now I feel so calm and ready for the big day tomorrow.

Hope you have a wonderful Xmas and try and get some training in amidst the eating and drinking especially if you are prone to getting overwhelmed.

Merry Christmas 💪💪💪🎅
