Aikido Whangaparaoa provides a safe and friendly environment to learn Aikido. The martial art, designed by Morihei Ueshiba enables practitioners to defend themselves from attacks and either throw the attacker or immobilise them using a variety of joint locks without injuring the attacker.

As the art focusses on using the attackers energy against them it requires little strength, so it’s suitable for all ages and for males and females. As your skills improve it also gets quite dynamic and provides a great workout and ability to improve your cardiovascular fitness.

Following the recent gradings at Aikido Shinryukan that our members completed earlier this month, we have some vacancies for new members - we train at Whangaparaoa Hall, Stanmore Bay on Wednesdays and Thursdays at 19:00-20:00 and on Sunday mornings 10:00-11:30.

Ideally you are aged 13 and upwards. Our oldest member is in his 60’s so age isn’t a barrier to enjoying Aikido.

As the school year end approaches, it’s an ideal opportunity to enrol to avoid boredom over the summer holidays and improve your skills and fitness.

Check out our page for more details and access videos of some our more dynamic training. Contact details are on the page or you can contact Duncan Dwight Sensei or Martin Hughes to discuss coming for a free trial.

Last presentation of certificates from the mid-year Gradings by Duncan Dwight Sensei.

Congratulations to Gary Davis, there will no doubt be more to come in the future.

Looking into the crystal ball we can see a class in Hanmer in your near future.

Surprise visitor (well it was for Jamie and Connor anyway) last night after a long gap. Good to see John Hulsbosch back on the mat, hopefully it’s not so long before the next time.
