MATARIKI FOREST UPDATE

Current forestry work and track closures:

Loop Road – Part 1 Closed during the week and weekends for the immediate future while roading crews prepare for the upcoming harvest.

Loop Road – Part 2 Harvesting will follow shortly after the roading work and is expected to continue for a significant period — potentially a few months.

Tracks that are affected:

• Dog Roll

• Peter Rabbit

• Popich Down

• Cookie Monster

• Dh

• Collarbone

• Other tracks in that area

Forestry will be putting up signs around the Loop entrance, the bottom of the DH track and up Ranui.

Other tracks will still be open, go out have fun, stay safe.

Please respect all closures and forestry signage while this work is underway.

We’ll keep everyone updated as we get more information.

The entire Park is open all weekend and the Black Rock XC courses are all primed and ready for you to test them out prior to the Big Race in Two weeks time🤙

Blackrock XC course update:
Forestry operations are ongoing during weekdays. This means Otuwheti Road, Middle Ridge Road and Ridge Road are closed to the public during the week. All trails that exit onto these roads are also closed to all riders. The Whangamata Mountain Bike Club have put barrier ropes up during the week to stop riders straying into closed areas. Please respect these closures and do not duck these ropes🙏

FAQ’s

Q. When can I ride the XC courses?
A. Anytime during the weekends.

Q. My only chance to ride the course before the race is during the week. Surely I can just ride the course?
A. Unfortunately not. The XC courses traverse areas of the Park that are used by forestry to conduct harvesting operations during the week.

Please note we still have road closures midweek due to continuing forestry operations. However, these are lifted every weekend and will not affect Race Day on Saturday 19th September.

40km Course markers are coloured BLUE 🟦 Important note for 40km & 60km riders: You will follow the Blue arrows for your first loop and then
Yellow arrows for your second loop (40km only) and third loop (60km only).

Put it in you calendar now, Saturday 19th of September 2026, Rego opens at the Mountain Bike Park from 7.30am.
