🔴⚪️ WELCOME TO THE WHANGAMATĀ TOE KICKERS! 🏉
We thought it was about time the mighty Toe Kickers had an official page — somewhere to share our games, tournaments, photos, stories and probably a bit of questionable rugby! 😂
But there’s a fair bit of history behind this team too.
The Bob Scott Whangamatā Toe Kickers proudly carry the name of legendary Whangamatā local and All Black Bob Scott — one of New Zealand rugby’s great fullbacks, famously known for playing and kicking barefoot. 🦶🏉
Our Golden Oldies tournament has now been running for more than 15 years, bringing teams together from around the Coromandel, Waikato and beyond for a day that’s always been about more than just rugby.
Over the years, the tournament has raised more than $60,000 for youth sport right here in Whangamatā. ❤️
That’s something we’re incredibly proud of.
The Toe Kickers have also been shaped by some bloody good people along the way, including founding members we’ve sadly lost, Richie Laurenson and Pete Peke. Their contribution, along with that of the many players, supporters, organisers and volunteers over the years, is all part of the history we want to celebrate and preserve on this page.
So whether you’ve pulled on a Toe Kickers jersey, stood on the sideline, helped at a tournament, bought something at an auction, supported our fundraising — or just enjoy watching a bunch of old boys convince themselves they’ve still got it 😂 — give the page a follow!
We’ve got plenty more rugby and good times ahead.
And if you’ve got old Toe Kickers photos, stories or memories, we’d LOVE you to send them through so we can start sharing some of the history of this awesome team. 📸
