WHAKATĀNE DISTRICT COUNCIL ENCOURAGE PEOPLE TO PREPARE AS CYCLONE NEARS.
Whakatāne District Council wants to assure residents they are keeping a very close eye on Cyclone Gabrielle and encourages people to start preparing now!
The cyclone is expected to start impacting the top of the country tomorrow and the Eastern Bay will feel its effects from Monday.
Those people living or near low lying areas should think about alternative arrangements to spend the night as a precaution.
Sandbags are also available to those who may need them to divert water away from houses or other buildings by contacting Tracks Concrete directly on 07 307 0581 - there is a cost involved.
Here are a few other things you can do to keep you and your whānau safe:
• Make a household plan that includes your pets.
• Have a grab bag.
• Be ready for power outages.
• Clear debris.
• Secure or tie down items that could move in strong winds.
• Check on you whānau, friends and neighbours.
Stay up to date with the latest weather warnings from MetService.
