The Buller Rugby Union is responsible for providing rugby activities in the Buller District. We provide club rugby from Under 5 level right up to senior men's and women's rugby. 🏆 MORE THAN A GAME. MORE THAN A CENTURY OF RIVALRY.

This weekend, Buller and West Coast play for a piece of New Zealand rugby history, the Rundle Cup.

First contested in 1911, the Rundle Cup is the longest continuously contested trophy between two provincial unions in New Zealand rugby and is second only to the Ranfurly Shield as one of our country's oldest provincial rugby prizes.

But this rivalry goes back even further.

Buller and West Coast have been going head-to-head since the 1890s, in what has become one of the longest-running, and remarkably, one of the closest provincial rivalries in New Zealand.

The Cup itself was donated by West Coast rugby man William Rundle, who later served with the New Zealand Rifle Brigade during the First World War and was killed on the Somme in 1918.

115 years after the Rundle Cup was first contested, Buller and West Coast are still playing for it.
