Buller Gorge Marathon

Buller Gorge Marathon The most scenic Marathon & Half Marathon in New Zealand. Both full and half-marathon courses are certified.

New Zealand’s most scenic marathon course commences at Hawks Crag and heads up the gorge to a turning point near Berlin’s Hotel, then back down the scenic, undulating Buller Gorge Highway to a finish at Victoria Square, Westport. The half-marathon is a one-way run starting near the Ohikaiti River Bridge and also finishes at Victoria Square.

Our good friend and long standing volunteer Barry Townrow may not be doing a BGM Marathon anytime soon but he can absolutely complete one over the month of April, raising funds for the Heart Foundation.

The Buller Gorge Marathon is more than just a race.

It brings people into our district.
It fills our accommodation.
It supports our cafés, restaurants, and shops.
It showcases the very best of Buller - our river, our landscape, our people.

In a small district like ours, that flow on effect means a lot.

It’s a day where the whole community comes together, whether you’re running, walking, cheering, marshalling, serving coffee, or simply enjoying the buzz around town.

That’s something special.
And we’re incredibly grateful to everyone who plays a part in making it happen.

Race starts between 1.30pm - 2pm depending on how the course is looking, keep an ear out for the megaphone and assemble near the playground (by the sun shelter!)
