It's been a couple of weeks since our last update.
A fortnight ago the Hogs managed to get a leg over Rolleston, knocking them over 40-26 in a six-try bonanza on a wet and windy night at home. It wasn't always pretty but its the result is what counts.

Last week the Hogs headed away to Lincoln in excellent conditions. Lincoln had only managed one win for the season, so naturally it turned into an arm wrestle.

The game was tit for tat all night, with both teams crossing for six tries apiece. The fog crawled in near the end and it was hard seeing one side of the field to the other.
Unfortunately for the Hogs, a late try to Lincoln sealed the deal. Lincoln kicked 6/6 conversions which helped get them the chocolates. The scoreboard read in Lincoln's favour, but there wasn't much between the two sides.

Onto this week...

The Warthogs turn their attention to the Lyttelton Krakens, who are having their first go at the competition this season. They've settled in nicely and currently sit 5th on the table โ€” one spot ahead of the Hogs.

The Hogs are back at home and, believe it or not, this is our last home round-robin game of the season

At this stage, numbers are looking a little shaky. So if you've been thinking about dusting off the boots, waiting for one last home game, this is your chance!

If you can't make it Friday night, make sure you get down to the club 3.00pm Saturday and cheer on BC as he celebrates his 100th Division 1 game. A fantastic achievement ๐Ÿ‘

Friday night against Waihora and, as per usual, the Hogs were once again playing the weekly game of โ€œdo we actually have enough players?โ€ ๐Ÿ—๐Ÿ˜…

In the end we managed to scrape together just the one lonely sub on the benchโ€ฆ luxury.

They do say rugby is a game of two halves โ€” and wowee, was that true on Friday night.

The first half from the Hogs wasn't perfect but some good footy was happening. Things were sticking, the offloads were flowing, and we were catching most passes. A few slick bits of play saw us cross the line four times before the break

Defensively the lads were digging deep too, holding off wave after wave from Waihora to head into halftime with a pretty handy 28โ€“0 lead

The halftime message was simple enough:
โ€œKeep doing the basics, stick to whatโ€™s working and keep going.โ€

Simple game, rugby. Wellโ€ฆ apparently not ๐Ÿ˜…

Waihora grabbed one not long after halftime and then, before we knew it, the wheels fell off.
Nek minute theyโ€™d got their tails up and piled on 31 unanswered points in the second spell.

Final score: 31โ€“28 to Waihora

There are positives from that first half โ€” now we just need to figure out how to play two of them.

This week the Hogs have the weekend off to celebrate The King's birthday with a few pints

With the extra week off, weโ€™re also hoping to round up a few more numbers before weโ€™re back at home on Friday 5th June vs Rolleston, 7:00pm kick-off.
If you've got a spare pair of boots you know where to find us! ๐Ÿ‰

Wellโ€ฆ miracles do happen โ€” the Hogs have got their first win of the season with a 55โ€“5 win over Kirwee ๐Ÿ—

Massive thanks again to the good buggers at Kirwee for agreeing to the Saturday game so we could join the rest of our senior teams on club day

11:30am kick-off meant a 10:30am arrivalโ€ฆ safe to say that was a bit of a shock to the system for a few of the lads

Once the cobwebs were blown out, it turned into an absolute beauty. The weather put on a stunner โ€” blue skies, firmish deck, and perfect conditions for a bit of running rugby.

Most of the damage came out wide, chucking the pill around like we actually knew what we were doing. A few cheeky offloads stuck, things were going well. In the end 9 tries all up

Brett and Jimmy both helped themselves to a couple each, finishing off some great team play

Righto, onto this weekโ€ฆ

The Hogs are on the road again with an away trip to Waihora

Get down to Tai Tapu this Friday if you can and support the lads as we try and prove last week wasnโ€™t a complete fluke ๐Ÿ˜…

This weekโ€™s update is a little lateโ€ฆ a bit like some of those hits last week ๐Ÿ˜…

It was looking like a wet one heading into Friday, and last time we checked Denton Oval still hadnโ€™t been given the budget for a roof like the new stadium. Luckily the rain cleared about 45 minutes before kick-off and we were good to go. The deck was a bit damp, but the Oval was in the best nick weโ€™ve seen it in for years

The Hogs got an early fright with a quick try to Hornby, but to the ladsโ€™ credit, we fought our way back into it and for a period there it was shaping into a contest.

Danny and Liam both crossed for a couple each, putting the finishing touches on some good work and slick passing

But a few missed tackles proved costly, and Hornby made the most of their chances, stretching things out to a 50โ€“28 result in the end.

Righto, onto this weekโ€ฆWeโ€™ve got our old foes up the road - Kirwee ๐Ÿ—

Bit of a change up this time โ€” no Friday night lights. The Hogs are rolling out Saturday for Club Day, and a big thanks to the good buggers at Kirwee for making that happen

Early kick-off with all the festivities on, so weโ€™re underway at 11:30am, Westy Field #2 ๐Ÿ‰

Get down, enjoy the day, and get around the lads โ€” should be a beauty.

The time has comeโ€ฆ the Hogs are back at it this Friday ๐Ÿ—

Weโ€™re up against the Swordsmen on Friday 8th May at Denton Oval ๐Ÿ‰

After a couple of character-building weeks with plenty of fitness๐Ÿคฃ weโ€™re hoping to finally roll out a full 15โ€ฆ and if weโ€™re really lucky, maybe even a couple on the bench ๐Ÿ‘€

When playing at the Oval there's always plenty of noise and big hits. Our Hogs will need to be on from the first whistle.

If youโ€™re keen for a good night of footy, get along and make some noise on the sideline, even bring ya boots if you like โ€” weโ€™ll take all the support we can get ๐Ÿ’ช

Wellโ€ฆ they say consistency is key in sport โ€” but not when youโ€™re consistently struggling to find numbers ๐Ÿ˜…

Friday nightโ€™s clash against Springston very nearly didnโ€™t get off the ground, with the Hogs only managing to scrape together 13 players. Massive shoutout to Springston for being good sorts and agreeing to roll with 10-a-side so we could still get a game in

Didnโ€™t take long for things to get interestingโ€ฆ Springston crossed over in the first couple of minutes and it looked like it could be a long night

But to the Hogsโ€™ credit, the lads banded together, dug in, and gave it everything. Against the odds, it turned into a proper shootout

Special mention to Brett who was everywhere and bagged himself a hat-trick ๐Ÿซก

Two yellow cards with less than 5 to go and we were down to 8 men which was tough.
In the end, we went down 45โ€“36, but there was no shortage of effort, heart, and a few cracking tries along the way.

Not the result, but plenty to be proud of considering the circumstances โ€” and proof that no matter what, the Hogs will front up and have a crack ๐Ÿ—๐Ÿ’ช

Next up, the Hogs have a bit of a break before weโ€™re back at it on Friday 8th May vs the Swordsmen at Denton Oval

Get set for the first home game of the season ๐Ÿ—

The Crusaders might not have their horses running around anymore๐Ÿดโ€ฆ but donโ€™t worry, weโ€™ll still have the Hogs charging out onto the pitch tomorrow night!

After last weekโ€™s โ€œwelcome back to footyโ€ hit out against Leeston, there are still a few sore bodies getting aroundโ€ฆ but the lads are ready to go again.

This week weโ€™re up against Springston, 7.00pm kick-off at home Friday night. Good news is the forecastโ€™s looking clear and the field is looking sharp for some half-decent footy

Come on down to support the lads and the club.. see you there

Woweeโ€ฆ that was a tough old shift for the Hogs Friday night ๐Ÿ˜…
Into the wind for the first half and Leeston utilised it well with a sharp kicking game and some lightning speed to match.

To top it off, we somehow packed about 55 minutes into that first 40โ€ฆ safe to say the lungs were absolutely bleeding come halftime.
Down 21โ€“0 at the break, things werenโ€™t looking flash โ€” but to the ladsโ€™ credit, no one dropped their head.

With the wind at our backs and a good injection of youth and speed at half time, the Hogs found a bit of life. A few fresh legs and suddenly we were playing some footyโ€ฆ and it showed.
Three cracking tries later and weโ€™d well and truly made a game of it ๐Ÿ’ช

Final score 31โ€“17 โ€” not the result, but plenty to like about that second half effort.
Massive shoutout to the lads who made their Hogs debut, they got stuck in and didnโ€™t take a backwards step.
Plenty to build on and a good foundation has been laid for the season. ๐Ÿ—

The only real downside of the nightโ€ฆ the Janitor had to make a late trip into A&E to get his ribs checked.
Turns out dropping 30kg doesnโ€™t make the hits hurt any less. Fingers crossed itโ€™s nothing serious and heโ€™ll be back out there causing trouble and filling sinks in no time ๐Ÿ’ฉ

Next up, weโ€™ve got Springston at home Friday night

10/04/2026

Wellโ€ฆ here we go. First game of the season for the Hogs ๐Ÿ—
Pre-seasonโ€™s beenโ€ฆ interesting ๐Ÿ˜… numbers have been a bit light, bodies are already a bit creaky, and thereโ€™s a fair chance weโ€™ll be introducing ourselves to each other in the warm-up.
Weโ€™ve got a few brave souls pulling on the jersey for the first time tonight โ€” debut game straight into it, no easing in, just how we like it ๐Ÿ’ช
The Hogs take on Leeston tonight, 7.00pm out at Leeston RFC ๐Ÿ‰
We wonโ€™t sugar coat itโ€ฆ it might not be pretty, but the lads will front up, have a crack, and fly the Westy flag regardless. Thatโ€™s what itโ€™s all about.
If youโ€™re keen for a laugh, a few big hits, and to support a group of blokes giving it a nudge no matter what โ€” get down and make some noise from the sideline. The boys will need it ๐Ÿ˜…
Andโ€ฆ if youโ€™ve still got a pair of boots lying around, bring them with you โ€” we might just need to put you on ๐Ÿ‘€
