*Thomson bullied into Boxing Day attendance*

In breaking news, the Moas have added reigning Player’s Player Matt Thomson to their Boxing Day squad, after peer pressure got the best of him during the Moas Xmas do.

What started as a casual conversation soon turned into a s**t version of the amazing race as three Moas all scrambled to book flights a few days out from the Moas first overseas fixture. Bellman, Turner and Thomson went head to head to secure flights as the puppet master Willsy looked on. In a predictable outcome, the Moa without a wife secured his flights first and it was rumbos all round.

Thomson’s ability to get around the boys will be a welcome addition to a playing group that will be at the back end of a three day bender.

We wish you a Moas christmas.

*Where there’s a Willsy there’s a way*

After two heavy losses to start the season, the Moas have been buoyed by the inclusion of star all rounder Matthew Wills for their next fixture. The explosive opening batsman and n**e tweaker has confirmed himself as ‘in’ after a fortnights hiatus.

Willsys return has drawn comparisons to the fresh prince, aka Will Smith, injecting himself into a Bel Air Academy side down on confidence and general skill levels in 1994. Smith guided Bel Air to 10 on the trot, before Uncle Phil suffered a heart attack in the stands against West Hollywood.

It’s hoped Willsy can inspire more than cardiac arrest as the Moas look to rebuild their season this Wednesday. More to come.

**Kyne Leaves Nest, Moas f@$& ”

A massive beetroot sized hole has been left in the Moas line up with star player Russell Kyne taking up a lucrative offshore contract. The theory that was employed to varying degrees of success last season has backfired, as Kyne slid so far down the order that he slid out of the team and onto a plane bound for Heathrow. The Moas MVP for two of the last three seasons will be a hard man to replace as the Moas middle order lynchpin. Here we dissect the contenders:

Ben Turner: If his wife lets him play then he could easily slip into Kynes sweaty pads. Turner has all the shots and goes big straight. Some question his loyalty though, as he often appears to have better rapport with the opposition than his own team.

Jimmy Thompson: A genuine dasher, has taken his chances when promoted up the order and often strikes at over 200. Injuries could restrict appearances.

Jason Bellman: A gritty player in the Justin Langer mould. Keeps the scoreboard ticking over and can clear the rope if required. If he stays away from sand dunes this summer then he could be a force.

Dean White: Groomed by Kyne last season, he could be the heir apparent. Can hit a big ball and looks good even when getting clean bowled. Running between wickets is an issue, with the Moas propensity to collapse, this is con.

Matt Thomson: An x-factor player and crowd pleaser, but consistency is a concern. Can hit 6 sixes in an innings one week and miss a slow full toss the next - prone to “getting a good one”.

Hamish Kyne: Some say the better Kyne, others say bring back John. Ability to go very large but often moves at the speed of an injured sloth in the outfield.

Michael Hayward: No.

**Morris-Jenkins Declares**

In breaking news, Moas co-founder and CFO Jared Morris-Jenkins has been forced into early retirement after suffering his second serious knee injury in three years. The latest injury occurred at NZ Nationals in March when Morris-Jenkins looked to punch a ball through covers for a single, only to have his kneecap head down to fine leg. The Moas were quick to act, providing some of the best doctors in the world to assist with JMJs recovery. Unfortunately after seven months, it was apparent that a gynaecologist and an optometrist weren’t much help with a knee injury. So with clarity provided from a new pair of glasses, JMJ decided that retirement was on the cards. Fortunately he has prepared well for life after cricket, obtaining a university degree 13 years ago and balancing his cricketing commitments with some corporate work experience.

A reliable floater in the Moas batting line-up, Morris-Jenkins managed to rack up over 500 runs for the Moas with 90% of these backwards of point. As one of the few Moas able to bat sensibly, JMJ was often called upon to stop a collapse or slow down the run rate if Walters or Deano got too carried away. A crucial last wicket partnership with Russell Kyne in the 2018 grand final helped the Moas post a competitive total, which they defended to win a maiden premiership. With the ball in hand, JMJ embarrassed many a skilled batsman with his weird slower ball googly thing. His variations were key to a balanced attack for the Moas when everyone else was trying to bowl 140kph or spin it square.

When asked what his career highlights were, JMJ replied “Individually it was getting the lads over the line with a yuck, negative strike rate 20-odd post a top order collapse and a ball to the head from a 160kmph bumper from Sunnie "Shoaib Aktar" Chan”. A real team man, and not one to seek personal plaudits, Morris-Jenkins was quick to point out that his favourite moments in the baggy blue have been witnessing the achievements of his team mates. “Favourite moment in the team would have been while at the non-strikers end, the umpire asked me if Russell Kyne was Hamish Kyne's dad”. “Also an honourable mention to Matty Thomson for spewing in the Red Hill toilets during the Moas end of season dinner”.

Morris-Jenkins will now transition into an off-field role with the Moas. He retains his CFO position and also steps into the Mental Skills coaching position which has been vacant since Liam Wealleans had a mental breakdown and fled to Dubai in 2018.
