Meet Mornington Golf Club’s new President – Hugo Bunny

Thanks to Scott for all his years as President and the great job that he did and welcome to Hugo.

Hugo started playing golf as a teenager but only got serious about golf 10 years ago. He joined MGC in 2020.

When asked why he wanted to take on the President role Hugo said “I get a lot of enjoyment from the club and felt it was time I gave some more back. Also Scotty has done such a terrific job and I know he wanted to move on to a new role in the Club – that of Club Captain".

Hugo would like to see the course continue to improve so we can keep growing the membership and truly become a jewel in the crown of the Wellington City Councils Park and Recreation Services.

Hugo’s favourite things about MGC are the Sunday morning golf and the people he has met at the club. His favourite memory is winning the Mornington Classic one year.

His best bit of golfing advice is to remember to not try and over swing your club and go the gym for core strength.

At our AGM on 24 July, Mornington Golf Club had the pleasure of recognising two of our members with Life Membership

𝐃𝐞𝐛𝐛𝐢𝐞 𝐁𝐞𝐰𝐥𝐞𝐲 was recognised for her outstanding service, leadership, and unwavering commitment to the Club.

Since joining in 2012, Debbie has made an incredible contribution as a Committee member, Club Captain, Women's Convenor, and long-time organiser of the 9-Hole competitions. She has championed women's golf, welcomed new members, helped shape the Club's future, and represented members' interests with dedication and integrity.

Debbie's passion, generosity, and countless volunteer hours have left a lasting legacy that has enriched our Club and its members.

𝐑𝐚𝐲 𝐓𝐮𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐧 was recognised for his more than 20 years of exceptional service, leadership, and dedication to the Club and the wider golfing community.

As President, Ray played a pivotal role in securing the Club's future, leading its successful transition to our current home and helping transform Mornington into the vibrant, inclusive club it is today.

Ray's passion for coaching has inspired countless young golfers and led to the creation of our All Abilities Golf Programme, a model that has since been adopted across New Zealand. His commitment to making golf accessible to everyone has also earned him Life Membership of NZ Disability Golf.

Whether mentoring juniors, supporting golfers of all abilities, or strengthening our Club community, Ray has made a lasting difference.

On Wednesday evenings through February and March, one of our club members, Danny Rangihuna, has been providing coaching to some of Mornington's women golfers. I know everyone who participated has picked up some valuable tips that have helped improve their golf. A BIG THANKS to Danny
