You’re invited to Playcentre Open Week! Free play sessions for tamariki aged 0-6 across the motu. Bring your baby or preschooler along to our centre from 18-21 August and experience our supportive community.

Your child will enjoy a range of play experiences, from messy and outdoor play to arts, music, and water exploration.

At Playcentre, early learning is a shared journey. For over 85 years, we’ve supported parents as the first and best educators for their tamariki, which is why parents attend and learn alongside their children, helping build confidence, connection, and belonging.

You’ll also gain access to a free NZQA-accredited adult education programme, helping you build practical parenting skills and strategies to support your child’s learning.

Find out more and arrange your visit today on our website (link in bio).

Introducing another amazing whanau from our centre. We hope you enjoy reading about their Playcentre journey 🥰

We joined Newlands Tamariki Playcentre in June 2025 when Alex and Harriet were 11 months old. I was finding it increasingly difficult to go out by myself with the twins as they got more mobile.
Joining Playcentre was an absolute godsend for us. For a long time, I wasn't confident I could go to the park with the girls by myself, but I could go to Playcentre! The girls get to do all the messy play and swing and slide time I can't do at home, and I am surrounded by other lovely parents who jump in to help whenever I need it.

We had been living overseas when I got pregnant, and so coming back to Newlands I realised I didn't really know anyone local, let alone other parents. Now I'm always bumping into Playcentre whanau when we're out and about!

The Playcentre philosophy of 'Welcome to our village' really resonates with me.  When we've all had a terrible night's sleep, I can walk into Playcentre and suddenly I'm being handed a hot drink and told to sit down for a bit. Someone starts reading Alex a story and Harriet wanders off to join in with the playdough - I can take a deep breath and suddenly things feel more manageable again.

Now we have been at Playcentre almost a year and I couldn't imagine life without it. We have made lots of friends, and as the girls have got a bit older I've felt able to contribute more. I've been studying some of the online education modules, and gotten involved with inducting new members. We're so grateful for Playcentre!
