I am originally from Peru and I've been dancing since I was a little kid. Starting with classic ballet and folk dances during school holidays I discovered my passion for dance. I've been teaching Latin Dance in the Wellington Region from 2004, Initially Salsa and Latin Dance at Pataka Performing Arts and Mana College Community Education where I also taught my own Latin Dance Fit program. I am trai
ned and experienced in Pilates, Yoga and Zumba and been working in the fitness industry for the last few years,
From 2004, I have been been performing Latin American Folk dances in different events. In 2005 joined Team Salsa competing and winning with them in nationals, festivals and doing performances. In 2006 formed "Mi Tierra" dance group to promote Peruvian and South American dances and later on the year "The Amazons". Events I have participated with Latin American dances include the Festival of the Elements 2005 & 2006, Latin Beat Festival 2006, Global Dance Celebration 2006, the Cuba Street Carnival 2005, 2007 and 2009, Fete de la Musique 2014 to name a few. In Cuba Street Carnival 2007 you may have heard me on the radio advertising the event and with the phrase "Viva el Carnaval!". With "The Amazons" we were the faces on the papers and performing for the carnival in the parade, on the World Stage and in the popular Good Morning Show :). I love teaching and participating in the cultural life in Wellington. I think it is important to return to the community and for that reason I am constantly involved in cultural events to show and promote the beauty of my cultural inheritance. I've run a few South American dance workshops and will try to keep them on. Keep an eye on this page and you can get the updates :)
Have a great day! Marita
