The Sri Lankan Dance Academy is a voluntary organization dedicated to preserving ancient traditional dance forms, and nurturing the modern dancing arts, of Sri Lanka. Our driving ambitions are to share Sri Lanka’s rich dance culture with the New Zealand public and to foster an interest in Sri Lankan dance for our children growing up in New Zealand. SLDA is established to offer Sri Lankan children growing up in New Zealand, the chance to learn and experience their culture & heritage and to to provide an opportunity for the wellingtonions to experience rich and colourful Sri Lankan culture. Purpose of SLDA FaceBook page is to
1) create awareness of SLDA among a wider audience
2) connect with students, parents, SLDA committee, past students, etc
3) Share success stories, photos and videos of SLDA events.

On Saturday, we were honoured to be invited to perform at Multicultural NZ’s Annual General Meeting! 🇳🇿🇱🇰🌏

Our senior students took the stage with a vibrant traditional Sri Lankan dancing and drumming performance, and we couldn’t be prouder of them!

Thank you to our wonderful students and parents for their continued support, and to our Guru, Mohan Sudusinghe, for his guidance and dedication in nurturing our students and keeping our traditions alive ❤️

Thank you to Multicultural NZ for having us and for giving us the opportunity to share a little piece of Sri Lankan culture with your community!

Yesterday, we were lucky to spend the morning at the Wellington Music Centre, sharing traditional Sri Lankan music, dance and drumming with their students, parents and teachers! 🇱🇰🥁💃🏽

Students had the opportunity to learn some of the basics of Kandyan dancing, learn about and try four different types of Sri Lankan drums, and experience the rich sounds, rhythms and traditions of Sri Lankan music. We were also delighted to perform a few items for the audience and bring along some of our costumes and jewellery pieces for everyone to see and learn about ✨

It was such a wonderful morning of learning, sharing and connecting through culture. A big thank you to the Wellington Music Centre and Peter for welcoming us and giving us the opportunity to share a little piece of Sri Lanka with your community! We enjoyed it immensely and we hope you all did too! ❤️🇱🇰

Behind the scenes of our Christchurch trip! ✨🇱🇰✈️

From getting ready and travelling together to rehearsals, laughs, lots of food and everything in between, our trip to Christchurch was filled with so many special moments!

More than just a performance, it was a wonderful bonding experience for our students and we truly enjoyed spending this time together, making memories and sharing our love for Sri Lankan dance and culture 🇱🇰💃🏽🥁

A huge thank you to our senior students, Guru Mohan Sudusinghe and all our families for the hard work, dedication and support that made this trip and performance so special! ❤️
