ASB is getting a new name! It will be known as Ākau Tangi

ASB Sports Centre is getting a new name! 🏀🏐🏓

From this Sunday 20 November, it will be officially renamed the Ākau Tangi Sports Centre.

Developed alongside representatives from Taranaki Whānui and Te Ātiawa, the name Ākau Tangi speaks to the sound and energy of the wind and waves crashing along the rocky coastline. Like the coastline of Te Whanganui-a-Tara, the centre is a place of constant sound, energy and movement.

Come along to Te Whakaara i a Ākau Tangi this Sunday 20 November for a free, family-friendly morning to celebrate this exciting change. We will have all sorts of activities available for you to enjoy throughout the morning. With so many great activities on offer there is sure to be something for everybody!

For more information about the name change, visit Our Wellington: https://wellington.govt.nz/news-and-events/news-and-information/our-wellington/2022/11/akau-tangi

Already thinking about next season??

Check out what NetballSmart has to say about the benefits of taking a break and planning your off season 👇🏽

As we conclude the winter season with tournaments, festivals and finals, our focus shifts to the benefits of having an off-season.

The off-season is a crucially important part of an annual plan and an awesome time to take a mental and physical break. The goal is to return next season refreshed, energised and excited to play, coach or umpire!

5 key focuses for the off-season:

✅ Recover - take a week or two off to fully rest, particularly if you finished with a big tournament or event.
✅Build good habits - sleep and nutrition especially.
✅Address any injuries or niggles that you may have ignored during the season.
✅Take time to work on things that may have been neglected in season - e.g. strength and mobility.
✅Move for fun!

My Smart Roadmap can help you check in with yourself, and provides strategies to maximise your recovery!

What a season!

Despite Covid and season ending injuries K1 finished 4th in Prem Reserve 1 and K2 managed to hold our spot in Prem Reserve 4 after having to play overtime for the second week in a row!

The weather didn't stop us letting loose at prizegiving after the last game of the season and the club would like to again congratulate the recipients of this year's awards:

K1:

Most Improved - Hannah McDonald
Most Valuable - Kaysha Whakarau
Players' Player - Kaysha Whakarau

K2:

Most Improved: Jerren Tweedie (with an honourable mention to Mia Wichmann)
Most Valuable - Kendyll Miller
Players' Player - Jerren Tweedie

The Players Player award for both teams was very close this year and every vote counted. This is a testament to you the players and what you bring to your teams and the club.

A huge thanks to everyone who was involved this season from players, fill ins, coaches and committee members, to those that supported us by coming to games and participating in our fundraisers, our sponsor EmbroidMe and The Cambridge Hotel who accommodated us for all but one of our events. Even though the season is finished, we are already looking forward to what 2023 brings ❤️🖤
