A great first day of racing for our five stars with all of them progressing to race again on day two.
See this great article from Rowing NZ about day one and the details below on how to listen to audio of the racing as well as the live video feed from Saturday.
“It was a blinder of a race in the men’s quad where Marley King Smith, Justin Smyth, Maxim Ericson and Jack Clark(coached by Martin Simoncelli) came out on the right side of a sprint finish and gained a top two finish, meaning they will progress directly to the A/B semifinal to be raced on Saturday 5th August. The Czech crew took first place (5:59.08), the kiwis in second (5:59.88) and the USA in third (5:59.90). Across all three heats, only five seconds separated the top seven fastest crew – meaning all crews will be in for a fantastic battle in the A/B semifinal.”
“With only seven entries, the women’s coxed eight had a cut-throat progression that saw first going directly to the A final and all others to the repechage. Georgie Bethell, Nicole Vance, Alice Wallis, Emma Bagrie, Nico Daly, Kate Barham, Zola Kemp, Phoebe Wallis and Annabel Wynn-Williams (cox), (coached by Logan Keys)put up a great performance and crossed the line in second place behind Germany, meaning they will contest the repechage on Friday 4th August.”
