Day 4–5 Race Update

Day 4 was another huge push for the team. They rode their bikes all night and reached TA7 at 6:00 am, starting Stage 8 - 30 km trek with 2000 m of elevation and terrain difficulty rated 10. As the guidebook says: β€œThe variety of tramping styles will keep you entertained (or frustrated) for a long time.”

Day 5. The team was still out there on Stage 8, spending the entire night on the trek. We are incredibly proud of them! They continue holding a Top 5 position out of 30 teams! πŸ’ͺ

After 29 hours 25 minutes on the trek, they pushed on and started the next stage: 24 km of biking with 1000 m elevation, including a steep climb and a long descent.

At 19:17 the team arrived at TA9 to begin the bikeraft stage. Next up is Stage 10: 37 km, with only 3 CPs to collect.

And then… the final Stage 11: bike to the finish line!

Stay strong, team! We’re cheering for you all the way! πŸ”₯

The chase for the 3rd spot is on!

With Team looking like they have secured 2nd place (bearing their boat doesn't sink/ bikes don't blow up!) our eyes are now onto Teams K2D2 , and MAGNIficent Youth .

The Blue Mountains O Course - now also known as "the eddy of doom" - which is for those of you who are not familiar with whitewater talk: an Eddy is a pool of water on the sides of rivers / behind rocks that suck boaters/sticks in to and circulates them. A room of doom Eddy is how us boaters explain an Eddy that is REALLY hard to get out of.

These three teams went in to the Blue O / Room of doom at the below πŸ‘‡πŸΌ times.

#23/ K2D2 at 0234 am
#41 Mag youth at 0944 am
#2 Forever Forest at 0914 am
All on thursday

And now -(Friday at 13:45pm) it looks like they are all about to come out with in minutes/ an hour of each other!
And note: went in at 410 am (2 hours after K2D2 ) and are already almost done with the river!

It goes to show you that this leg, if not mentally prepared could circulate you over and over again... As K2D2's dot shows. We cannot wait to hear the stories AND see who comes out with that last podium spot..Regardless of what happens - thank you for the show and for keeping us all on our toes. May you all keep racing your race and taking care of one another.

Race Update – Days 2–4

What an intense few days for the team!

Stage 4 – Trek (TA3 β†’ TA4)
A massive 27-hour trek through challenging terrain. Long, exhausting, and relentless β€” but the team pushed through and reached TA4.

Day 2 – Stage 5 – Paddle in the Pacific (TA4 β†’ TA5/6)
Next came 7 hours on the ocean, battling rough weather and tough conditions. Due to the nasty weather, the team had to stay at TA6 overnight, waiting for safer conditions before continuing.

Day 3 – Stage 6 – Coasteering Challenge
This stage looked short on paper β€” 12 km with 400 m elevation β€” but it was anything but easy.
The route included rock traverses, swims, caves, rugged cliff lines, and hidden beaches.
A true adventure section! The team completed it in 5.5 hours.

Then it was straight onto Stage 7 – Bike (150 km).
Out on the course they were battling with Team Ozzie Pavlova, navigating through the course and rogaining to collect checkpoints along the way.

Day 4
The team rode through the entire night and reached TA7 at 6am, where they immediately started Stage 8.

The team keeps pushing forward! πŸ’ͺπŸ”₯

34 hours into the race πŸ’ͺ
After the prologue, swim test, gear checks, and sorting food, the team finally set off, straight into rain and muddy roads. Tough start, but they pushed through.

So far they’ve completed 3 stages:
πŸš΄β€β™‚οΈ Bike – 30 km / 500 m elevation + trek
πŸ›Ά Packraft – 35 km + portage
πŸš΄β€β™‚οΈ Bike – 110 km / 3000 m elevation + hike-a-bike.

They’ve faced some challenges with the tracker, which dropped them from 4th to 30th place, but the race is far from over.

Today around 9 am, they started Stage 4:
🌳πŸͺΎ Trek – 24 km / 1200 m elevation
Good luck out there, you’ve got this!

With 30 teams on the course, including strong international crews and 21 teams from New Zealand, the competition is intense. The battle is on!

Go team, go! πŸ”₯πŸš€

The team are getting into the thick of it now! They have had a great start and are in what seems to be an early front pack.

The bike section they are on will take a few more hours and there is a nasty/fun bike bush wack coming up. Rumors of multiple hours to go 1.2km will test the mental game particularly with the weather.

Speaking with the team before the race here is the intial plan.

"Our plan is to go reasonably fast till TA4, and hopefully get couple hrs of sleep there. It will be tge end of the dark zone. If we leave early in morning the tides will be favourable for coasteering sections. If we arrive too late at TA4, we cannot afford to sleep, due to incoming high tide for coasteering."
