🚨🌧 WEATHER UPDATE: JUNIOR RUGBY CANCELLED – LIMITED GAMES PROCEEDING

With the challenging weather - rain, wind and colder temperatures - we’ve made the tough call to cancel all junior rugby this evening and tomorrow. The only games proceeding are Year 7 and 8 Tackle in the Wellington region (City, Hutt Valley and Tawa/Porirua).

We’re also mindful of ground conditions and the pressure on fields, and want to protect them for the weeks ahead. With 10 weeks of junior rugby still to go, there is plenty of season left.

As always, we encourage everyone to make the best decisions for your teams based on local conditions at game time. We’ll continue to review conditions and confirm any further changes ASAP.

Senior rugby alterations are currently being worked through and will be communicated to clubs and on Rugby Xplorer in due course.

Thanks everyone - stay warm and dry!

Kirton Honoured with ONZM
Earle Kirton has been appointed an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit (ONZM) in the 2026 King’s Birthday Honours, in recognition of his services to rugby.

Kirton’s appointment is a fitting recognition of a rugby career defined by exceptional talent, passion for the game, and a keen eye for identifying and developing talent.

Kirton represented the All Blacks between 1963 and 1970, touring Britain, Ireland, France, North America, Australia, Fiji and South Africa. He played 13 Test matches, including series against France and Wales, and made 49 appearances for New Zealand overall, scoring 42 points, including four Test tries.

He later served as selector-coach of the Wellington provincial side in 1986 and 1987, guiding the Lions to the NPC title in 1986 and a runner-up finish the following year. Kirton also served as an All Blacks selector in 1988 and again from 1992 to 1995.
